"Can you hurry up with those boxes sweetheart?" your mum called from the kitchen.
"Yeah, I'm bringing them in" you sighed as you carried the heavy moving boxes into the house from the van outside.
Your father had assured you that this was a promotion for him, but it really seemed more like a demotion if it meant you had to live in this dump. There was not even a shopping mall in the town - just a few small offices, some shops and a few public amenities. Since your father was a sales agent for agricultural products, apparently the company wanted him closer to their top clients with his new job title. But that also meant he'd be away from home more often. Your mum had found a job at the local supermarket as some kind of middle manager. Which meant that most of the unpacking of the household items was left up to you ... it was fortunate, even, that your mum had today off work to help you. The house you were moving into was larger than your old apartment, but it felt uncomfortable and cold. Most of all, you feared not seeing your friends from your old school again.
Suddenly there was a loud knock at your front door.
"Can you get that?" your mum called.
"I was going to anyway" you said, a little annoyed.
Standing outside was an absurdly beautiful girl of about your age. She had long blonde hair and a flawless, beaming face that caught you very much off guard. She was wearing a green t-shirt with "School Is Cool" printed on it, and carrying a white paper bag.
"Hey there" she said, grinning happily "My name's Maddy. I live in that house with the red roof next door."
"Hi" you replied shyly, shifting your legs to disguise the rapidly growing, embarrassing erection in your shorts.
"I just thought I'd bring over some cookies as a welcome gift" Maddy continued, holding out the paper bag "Care to try one?"
"S... sure" you stuttered, bringing your hand into the bag and pulling out a chocolate chip - your favorite flavor. Slowly you brought the cookie to your mouth and took a bite.
"Hey, these are delicious!" you said "Where'd you buy these?"
"I baked them myself" replied Maddy.
"Can I please have another one?" you asked greedily.
"Of course! The whole bag is for you." smiled Maddy "I'm glad you like them. Actually, you should probably save a few for your parents. But you're invited to come around to my house some time and I'll bake you some more!"
"I'd love to!"
A few minutes later you were unloading the last of the boxes from the van.
"Who was that at the door earlier?" asked your mum.
"Just some girl who wanted to give us cookies. They're really delicious. Want one?" you asked, your mouth full of cookie dough, as you held out the bag.
"How much of your pocket money did you waste on those?"
"They were free. She said it was a welcome gift."
"How thoughtful of her! Did you say thank you?"
"I ... think so?"
"That's good. Leave some on the counter for dad and I."
"Okay, mum."
