Before Hank could complete his little experiment, Bobby Drake burst into the lab in his typical over-excited, boyish manner. "Hank! You're not gonna believe this!" Now, while Hank was known for his agility, Bobby's sudden outbursts always managed to render him a klutz. Shouting in surprise, he fumbled the beaker in his hand and it dropped to the floor, smashing and spilling the solution and bits of glass over the tile.
The lean teenager stood in the doorway, frost clinging to his skinny frame from his temperature-driven mutant power. Blinking at the mess, now underneath the upside-down Beast, bobby broke into a grin. "Gee, Hank, if you're experimenting with how big a mess you can make, I'd say you were pretty successful."
Hank sighed in resignation and carefully flipped himself onto a nearby counter, perching on the edge to avoid stepping in the mess on the floor. "Yes, Bobby, thank you. I'll make sure to note that in my journal. Now, to what do I owe your exuberant entrance?"
Bobby grinned, leaning against the door frame and inspecting his fingernails. "Oh, not much, only that the Blob showed up on the front lawn and started tearing up the place while you were down here playing with your chemistry set. No big deal, though. That whole "no one moves the Blob" thing? Myth busted. His fat ass is totally in the holding cells right now, thanks in part to yours truly. Just thought you should know."
Hank arched a furry blue eyebrow, hopping over to the door in one graceful leap. "Fredrick Dukes just walked up to the school and attacked without provocation? By himself? What about the other Brotherhood mutants?"
Bobby shrugged, not one to really think too deeply on bad-guy motives. "I dunno. Maybe he was on his lunch break? Oh! And speaking of which, he's huge! And not like his usual huge-huge, but super-sized huge-huge! Dude's gotta weigh twice what he used to!"
Hank's brow furrowed further. Something was certainly strange about all of this. "I think we ought to pay Mr. Dukes a visit, Bobby. You can help me clean up this mess later."
When they arrived at the holding cell block, Hank discovered that Bobby hadn't been exaggerating. Normally a staggering half-ton in weight, the Blob seemed to have ballooned to twice that size as well as add an extra foot or so to his height, making his holding cell look awfully cramped. Smothering the small cot provided with his enormous rear end, the Brotherhood mutant seemed resigned to his current situation, smiling smugly. Hank was baffled, something that didn't happen often. "Good lord, Dukes, and here I thought it wasn't possible for you to get any larger."
Blob laughed, causing his huge, round, spandex-covered belly to bounce between his tree-trunk thighs. "Ha! You wanna squeeze in here and make that comment, fuzzball? I'll sit on ya so hard it'll squeeze the blue out!"
Hank sighed, pushing his spectacles up along the bridge of his nose. "Charming. And just what possessed you to lay siege to the Xavier school single-handedly?"
Blob shrugged his massive shoulders. Every movement made his body wobble and shake, which seemed to fascinate Bobby. "My mutant power developed, or hadn't ya noticed? Got bigger, stronger, figured I'd see what I could do, and what better way to test it out than on you X-Geeks?"
Hank shook his head. "And here I thought you could be smarter than that, Fredrick. I'm sure we've told you before that the bigger they are, the harder they fall. well, I suppose you'll have plenty of time to think it over while we figure out what to do with you. Bobby, stop staring. it's rude."
Blob watched the two X-Men walk away, his grin growing larger, speaking under his breath so they wouldn't hear. "The bigger they are, huh? Let's see how hard you fall, fuzzball..." He'd been telling the truth, after all. Most of it, anyway. His new mega-heavyweight size was because of a new change in his mutation, but it hadn't been the only change. He'd let himself get captured by the X-men so he could have a little fun with his powers, and his first target was going to be the Beast himself. Sitting back and closing his eyes, the Blob began to concentrate...
