"So, I just do this," Jake said, swishing her hand "Followed by this-" She moved her foot in a circle "And then this, and it should mean I can do this."
She stamps her foot down in the centre of the circle she drew with her foot, and the spell completed. The two girls were blinded by pink light for a moment, and then it cleared to show that Jake was the same as she had been. Or was she?
Jake concentrated for a moment, and a strand of her hair grew out, and flew through the air to tickle Sally on the nose. Sally giggled, and tried to swat Jake's hair away, but instead it wrapped around her wrist.
"How did you do that?" Sally asked, trying to stifle her giggles
"Magic is about intent, right?" Jake asked "I thought it would be cool if my hair was strong and flexible enough to pick up or manipulate objects. I also thought it should be able to grow or shrink, so I never need to get a hair cut again."
"You're wasted as a boy," Sally sighed "Are you really going to turn back? You know you won't be able to do magic anymore if you do that?"
"I know," Jake said "And I don't know. Will I turn back if I ever make it home?"
"Not unless your world has a reason to," Sally said "Though basically no-one here understands inter-reality travel. You could go back, or you could stay as you are."
