She pulled the sheets over her head. Even knowing it wouldn't protect her, she didn't want to see -it- coming. A stray lock of her raven hair fell across her eyes.
Mirage ... or rather Miss Templeton didn't think she'd suit the black hair, but the contrast was suggested by the Witness Relocation Program. Part of making her accept her new identity, to help make a break with the past.
Her fingers trembled as she brushed it aside. She wasn't able to restrain the whimper as the floorboards creaked beneath the approach of Syndrome.
Surprising herself, she bolted for the door. A bolt of eerie blue light flashed behind her, turning the headboard into a smouldering ruin.
She made it as far as the Patio, before she felt the stinging light crash against her spine. In horror she saw bolts of lightning race around her body, flashing up and down her arms, legs, even as far as the tips of her fingers.
As she fell to the ground she had to close her eyes from the pain.
Cowering, hunkered down on the ground she felt her body shift and ripple. It was terrifying, but she couldn't open her eyes. The glowing light faded from around her body, and she no longer felt the tickling teasing of the blue glow.
"You were meant to be loyal..." Syndrome snarled.
"But you couldn't manage that.... However, I have generously helped you fulfil your other role. Eye-candy."
He burst out laughing as he walked away.
Miss Templeton opened her eyes. Her body was no longer the same svelte and slender form, her refined elegance not even a memory.
She needed the support of one of the trees on the patio to keep herself upright.
