"Luke, Mark!" Kim called you and your father. "I need to see you in the garage," she commanded, knowing Erika and Kyle might hear. If they got curious and listened to what was going on, she didn't care, she always encouraged their curiosity.
Mark had gotten so frustrated with Kim he forgot that he was meant to be leaving the house anyway and that he needed to leave through the garage anyway but still he wondered why he was being called back with you. He figured Kim might've come to her senses and realized how dangerous the machine was so he returned.
Your heart raced when you were called. If it had just been you, it would've been your mother asking about one of your inventions again, she could be as bad as Kyle when it came to playing with them. But to be called into the garage with your father as well meant there was something up, the only thing new was your body switching machine and given how your dad didn't like any of your inventions maybe this was the day your mother finally agreed with him. That or maybe she discovered the device and wanted to try it out with him. Swapping your mother and father wasn't out of the question, they knew each other intimately and maybe your mother wanted to spice things up. Little did you know it would be way worse.
"You're in big trouble young man," your father began, assuming he was right about Kim's intentions. "We know what this is," he pointed firmly to one of the pods. "Do you know how dangerous a machine like this could be."
This is where your mother decided to intervene. Mark had started so strong he had no choice to go along with her when she flipped the narrative. "That's right Luke," she said sternly, trying not to break the act. "We know how sometimes your inventions go wrong, so in order to let you use this, we've decided that."
"We've decided that..." your father jumped in eagerly, ready to say that the machine should be destroyed. But Kim put her hand on his shoulder, and stepped in front of him. She was right this would be better coming from her, she was the one that often supported his inventions so it would have more meaning when she said it.
"To teach you the dangers of this machine," your mother couldn't hide her smile now. Mark had done his part and now he couldn't back down. "You are going to swap with me, to show what happens if you end up in a body you might not like or find embarrassing."
"Wait? What!" You and your father said in unison.
"We talked about this, Mark. You said this machine could ruin people's lives and that people's lives could be stolen. So in order to teach Luke more responsibility, we should give him a bad scenario before he starts using it. I don't want to do this any more than he probably does, but as a mother it's my responsibility to teach him proper care."
Your father knew that was a lie and that this could be the beginning of the shenanigans this machine caused but he didn't want to challenge her in front of you. Which was probably her intent. Still he could reclaim some control of the situation. "That's right," he decided to back her up, he trusted her enough to not run away with her son's body but in wanting to take it, now both of them had to be taught a lesson or at the very least encourage Kim out of it. "And to add to this scenario, you're not allowed to swap back for a week." He looked over at Kim to see her reaction, apparently she didn't care. "And to enforce this, I will be taking the control module," he had already figured out how your machine worked and so would ensure it wouldn't be used by anyone else for the week, if Kim still wanted to go through with it.
"Yes a week is perfectly reasonable," your mother nodded.
"You can't do this... I don't want to be you for a week!" You plead in disbelief.
"Well then, I agree with your father, this machine is too dangerous. You could end up putting someone else in a body they don't want or your machine could break when people are mixed up. So you either swap with me for the week or I will let your father destroy the machine." It was her second bluff, much like how she had used her marriage as a weapon to keep the machine intact, she now trusted that Luke would rather swap with her than destroy something he had worked so hard on, especially seeing as their was at least a way back with her option.
