Chapter #3

The house left in the will

    by: Elly Author IconMail Icon
Steven was happy to step foot onto the yard of his late aunt Lynn. Not that he was happy that she passed, but because the fighting over who would get the place has ended. So thinking back to the relatives who tried to get the house from him and how Steven never known about them till they tried to take the house. Still it was not as if Steven was really thinking of staying out this way long, so he would fix up the place and go on from there.

The house was a two story old Victorian design, with a white picket fence in need of some paint and a few cracked windows in the front. The chimney was still in good shape, but Steven made note of the front door that needed to be replaced. Opening the door, which caused a loud squeak of rusty metal, Steven walked in and saw the dusk and cobwebs that littered the house.

"I really don't think anyone set foot in here for at least a year" Steven said to himself, as he knew his Aunt passed on just a little longer then that.

Walking around inside, Steven saw the damage of the years of improper maintenance. The drips of the pipes, the cracked tiles in the kitchen, even the sight of outlets that were begging to be replaced. Nothing Steven could not do on his own, but nothing that could be finished in only a weekend of work.

So Steven headed upstairs to the Master bedroom, he walked into the restroom to check if the water still ran. Finding it still on and looked clean, Steven looked up and into the mirror. The mirror was dirty, but Steven still saw his face behind the grime. Short dark hair rested on the head of the twenty eight year old man as brown eyes looked out weary from the drive into town. He was an athletic build that was hidden behind the collared button up shirt tucked into the dress slacks he worn often enough.

"what to do now" he asked himself as Steven tried to get up a game plan for how to start.
