Chapter #6

The air began to shimmer strangely...

    by: SF85 Author IconMail Icon
It was just a glimmer overhead at first that neither me or Phoebe noticed for a moment, our attention too caught up with the woman before us. A purple sparkle overhead finally got our attention though, and both me and Phoebe felt our mouths drop open as the sky above us seemed to have turned a deep dark purple with tiny little lights flickering across it.

"The Prophet does not falter!" the woman cried out as a wind blew up, kicking up dirt and leaves around us as it started to swirl in a tornado pattern. "Even if I have to take you to our realm myself!" With that, she raised her arms and lightning shot across the small expanse of sky we were under.

I felt a hand grab onto mine and saw Phoebe holding on tightly while looking at me. "RUN!" she yelled, and I really didn't need to be told twice as we both tried to make a run for it from the clearing. We proved to be too late however, as the winds whipped against us and prevented us from running too far before tendrils of light came down from the purple mass and pulled me and Phoebe up towards it!

As I was pulled into the purple sky, I could only make out a burst of light and a strong tingling sensation all over my body as Phoebe and I were completely enveloped. I had to shut my eyes as the light turned bright enough to hurt them. I don't know how long we were in the space between time and dimensions, but eventually I felt the wind on my back and opened my eyes just in time to be dropped unceremoniously to the ground. I landed with a grunt onto some thankfully soft grass and took a moment to get my bearings.

Looking around, I saw that I was in another forest clearing similar to the one we had just left, although I saw a dusty road in the distance, showing that I was not at home. The trees around me also looked different with plenty of vines hanging down from them, so thick as to obscure the sight of the rest of the forest in the distance. Sitting up with a groan, I saw Phoebe in a similar state in front of me and I let out a sigh of relief that she's OK.

Getting to my feet, I shakily walked over to Phoebe, still feeling the effects of going through that portal or whatever it was, and helped her to her feet "Thanks," she said, looking as dizzy as I felt. "You OK?"

"Yeah," I replied, shaking away the cobwebs. "You?"

"Been better," she said with a grim smile before looking around and giving a shiver. "This place is giving out one weird feeling," she said and I had to agree. There was a tingle in the air that I couldn't quite place, but it left goosebumps on my skin. "Won't get any answers here I suppose," Phoebe said, pulling me from my thoughts. "Let's see if we can find someone who isn't the crazy witch who sent us here."

Looking around, I looked for a way to head off. The path was clear but it might lead us directly to the woman who'd brought us here. But we could get lost in the forest if we took that way... Eventually, Phoebe and I decided too...

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Take a route through the forest

2. Walk along the path

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
