“The best one ever!” Ronnie giggled with a sinful bite of her blueberry scone, reducing the once sizeable treat to a sliver of its original size, “Next year I’m applying for work study in the cafeteria.”
“No shit!” Sam seemed honestly intrigued by Ronnie’s chosen career path, “So, what, you wanna be like a chef of somethin’?”
“Nothing that fancy.” Ronnie dismissed with a wave of her fork, stabbing the fraction of her feast left on the plate and lifting it up to her face before responding, “I want to own my own catering company. I just love love love making people happy, and I’m a pretty good cook soooo… two plus two equals catering!” She slid the last piece of scone from her fork with her teeth, letting out a sharp noise of appreciation of her dessert. “Mmm…”
The two freshmen watched as the older, significantly rounder girl reclined in her seat with a pleased look on her face. Her bright eyes closed for a second as she savored the final bite of her dessert, a smile dimpling her chubby cheeks as the flavor melted in her mouth. Her two pudgy hands fell on the lowermost portion of her middle and pat gingerly upon its surface, packed much tighter than Alice’s own, and pushed slightly into the surface before she came back to reality.
“I think Megan might be right, Ronnie…” Alice said with a mischievous grin, “You really are a foodie!” she caught the giggles, her little face cracking into a precocious smile as soft laughter became her
“You didn’t even know what that word meant until Megan taught you!” Ronnie stuck her tongue out to the younger girl in mock offense, “I told you she’d turn you against me!”
As the two more familiar girls laughed amongst themselves, Sam looked to be left out of the joke. Which, her being Sam, seemed to piss her off a bit. “Wudda fucksha—shit—what the fuck’s a foodie?” she asked after swallowing her most recent mouthful of her sizable slice of cheesecake.
“It’s someone who really really really likes food. Like a lot.” Ronnie informed, still looking towards Alice with a maliciousness that both parties knew Ronnie was completely incapable of feeling towards the younger girl, “My ungrateful besties seem to think that I have an unhealthy love affair with food, even though I spoil them with taste testing privileges!”
Even though she knew she was kidding, Alice still felt bad for bringing up the subject. It really seemed to be a sore spot for the much larger girl. Be that as it may, Alice ducked her head in half-pretend shame and let out a sheepish smile. She was about to apologize to her dear resident advisor when Sam decided to speak up:
“Well Christ, if that’s all it takes I’m a fuckin’ foodie too!” Sam said with a smile that exhibited that her cheeks were indeed much rounder than the last time Alice had seen that expression on the sour girl’s face. She pat her stomach, testing the fabric of her taut uniform so much that Alice could swear she heard the buttons groan in agony, “It’s hard not to be in a place as swanky as this!”
Ronnie laughed earnestly, having finally found a comrade in culinary appreciation. “Trust me, it gets better!” she said with signature brand of energy and pep, “Last year we had a Thanksgiving dinner that lasted, like, all day! Well not really all day, but like we could go in and get as much food as we wanted from, like, two to midnight. It was crazy!” the round girl exclaimed with a smack of her lips, “Ohmigosh, and Easter! Oh! My! Gosh! They lay out a spread that covers that entire. freaking. wall. All for grabs! You take as much as you want! Oh! I love love love love the holidays!”
“Sounds fuckin’ snazzy as hell!” Sam concurred in her usual manner as she leaned forward, intent on listening to every descriptive detail as she masticated on a thick cut of cake loudly. As she bent forward, the pale belly roll that swelled out from underneath her shirt pressed against her skirt, her taxing muffin top causing it to ride up even further. “Jesus… that’s gotta run up a bill though!”
“Nuh-uh, ‘cause holidays are free.” Ronnie said matter of factly
“R-Really, well that sounds—“
“You’re shitting me!” Sam effectively cut Alice off at the tongue, “Makes me wish every day was a goddamn holiday!”
“Yeah, no kidding.” Ronnie added
“Y-You know m-my sister Mel—“
“Goddamn, all this talk about food’s making me hungry!” Sam said with a Ronnie-reminiscent rub of her bulging belly, “I’m gonna –oof—grab me summore of that cheesecake...”
“Wait a sec, I’ve got lots of food back at my single. Or, hey, you could come back with us to Alice’s dorm. They’ve got lots of my stuff over there and we were supposed to have a movie day anyway, right Alice?”
“R-Righ—“
“Oh sweet! Where’s your dorm again, Prissy?”
“Uh… uh… um… R-R-Roo—“
“Room A-115, where’re you?”
“Oh that’s right, we’re hallway buddies.” Sam smacked her head lightly, “Room A-112.”
“Oh so I’m technically your R.A. too!” Ronnie said with a giggle of bemusement, “Come on Alice, let’s go back to your room. That is if Megan hasn’t eaten it yet.”
“O…okay…” she squeaked to no one in particular, as Ronnie and Sam had already started off without her…
