Chapter #7

Earth to Megan

by: Elusive Wordsmith Author IconMail Icon
“Hello, Meg?” Rebecca ducked her head into Megan Porter’s office. At first the tall musical prodigy thought that the art teacher was out because the room, while cluttered with artwork, appeared to be empty. Then she noticed the shorter woman standing behind an eseal.

“Ms. Porter?” Rebecca spoke up louder. Still the other teacher did not respond, caught up in her sketching.

“AH HEMM HURGH.” Rebecca forced a cough, which still didn’t looking like it had caught the other teacher’s attention until…

“Oh! Ms. Spillum.” Meg finally looked up from her latest project to notice Rebecca. “How can I help you?”

“Actually, it was you that wanted to meet with me.”

“Oh, silly me,” Meg said, getting out a sheet of wax paper to put over her work in progress.

Rebecca smiled thinly. This was how things could be with Megan Porter. True, she was a brilliant artist, Rebecca readily admitted that some of Meg’s works were stunning and the students appeared to like her in her art classes. However, Meg also had a degree for teaching music, Music Theory that was, and while she could teach the visual arts with ease there was something lacking in her other classes. Insofar as Rebecca had been informed by the headmistress, Ms. Polluck, about how the state of Music Theory classes were going. At the moment Rebecca and Megan split students that took Introduction to Music and the non-performance related academics. They were encouraged to have these little meetings weekly.

“How have things been?” Rebecca asked, anticipating that the meeting may be more than she bargained for, as she sat in a chair.

“Oh splendidly! We’ve been studying the human form for the past week and a half, I’ve seen some real improvement with some of the girls, and--”

“I thought this was about our shared subject,” Rebecca interjected, still trying to smile.

“Oh yes. It’s good to have you here, Rebecca. You’re just the person I was looking to for advice.”
