"Revenge." Harry thought with amusement. Then he decided that was unworthy of him. But he still felt the need to settle a few scores. He thought of how differently his first few years might have been, if there hadn't been the constant irritation of Draco Malfoy. He'd tried to bully Harry into a friendship. He'd tried to get Hagrid fired. He'd tried to get Harry expelled. He was behind every snide comment.
He... He... He...
Then it hit him. Would Draco be less of a problem were he a she. That wouldn't harm the Slytherin, he told himself. It wasn't vengeful, it was just an experiment. A test, to confirm the book's abilities, it's limitations. Before he could change his mind Harry drew out his quill and scribbled on the pristine page his first sentence.
Draco Malfoy, is a girl called Erica.
As he stabbed the page, to put the period at the end of the sentence. He knew instinctively that it had worked. Erica Malfoy still had Crabbe and Goyle as associates, although they worked more as bodyguards rather than lackeys. She used them to keep unwanted attention to a minimum. After all, the Malfoy family were an ancient wizarding family, and a marriage would bring glory to any partner.
A silver shimmering light danced along the words, erasing them from the page.
Harry knew that the change was still in place. But now the past was gone, Erica is now, and always had been female.
A twinge of guilt, a twinge of doubt still ate at the edge of Harry's conscience. But he fought it, trying to convince himself that the change wasn't malicious, that it wasn't ....
Then it struck him, a way to convince himself of the rightness, of the harmlessness of his actions.
Ron is short for Veronica. Veronica Weasley is the first girl in the family to go to Hogwarts.
She'd be a good friend for Hermione, Harry told himself. It was going to be interesting catching up with them now.
Again, the silver shimmering light danced across the page, leaving behind pristine perfection.
