Chapter #6

She's got the book!

"Yes, yes I've got that book, but I don't know what good it will do you." the creepy lady said, now paying much attention to you, "you see the book you describe is very special. Only a select few can read it, and for all I know that's a bunch of hooey and the book might just be blank."

"I...I just want to look at the book for myself to see if that's true miss..." you say still trying to hide what little you know about the book.

"Call me Helen." she said narrowing her eyes, "And don't lie to me girl. Tell me what you know about the book and maybe I'll let you see it."

Deciding the best thing to do is tell the truth you tell her the whole story starting at the garage sale. "And now I'm here trying to get the book to see if there is a reverse spell or something," you conclude, "So...can you please help a guy out?". Helen had begun pacing around the room before randomly blurting out. "Vultures!"

"Excuse me?"

"That damn family of mine! Apparently the second I die they sell all of the wonderful and powerful artifacts I've collected all of my life and they sell it for chump change."

"I understand you're upset, but..."

"Ah yes yes. Sorry about that. Let's adjourn to the study. Follow me." With a flourish of her large overflowing cloths she gestures you to her study. Entering this room you wonder if it is actually possible to exist. The entire room, the walls, the furniture, even the floor was composed of hundreds of tomes. "Wow," you find yourself saying. As you gazed in wonder at the room, Helen had grabbed the green spell book you were looking for from what you guessed was her work desk. "Well here it is." she said holding the book out.

You couldn't believe it, the book that had caused all this trouble was right here in front of you in 1989. Soon hopefully all of your problems would be over. You reach out to take it but Helen quickly pulls it out of your reach. "What gives lady? Are you going to let me read it or not?" you say frustratedly. "I will let you read the book, but on one condition."

"Name it, I'll do anything." You say not considering that you might not be willing to pay her price.

"You see this is a very powerful spell book. I know this because this exact book is referenced in many tales of lore I've read dating back to the medieval days. But the problem is, it chooses who can read it and it doesn't seem to like me. If it has chosen you to read it, then you can then transcribe it's spells into another book so that I can know it's secrets."

You didn't know what to do about this, on one hand this woman clearly wasn't the kind of person who should have access to potentially unlimited power. However you knew that you could take the crazy lady in a fight and take the book if you use the element of surprise.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Transcribe the spell book for her, what's the worst that could happen?

2. Take the spell book and run!

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
