This choice: The robe  •  Go Back...
Chapter #5

Vacation

    by: Ëtalfni Author IconMail Icon
Weeks had passed since the garage sale and the events that had transpired there had been pushed completely out of your mind. Nothing spectacular happened anyway, you had bought your mom her robe and wrapped it up as a present for her to open today, her birthday. You had remembered the night before to put it out at her seat on the table so it was the first thing she'd see in the morning.

When you woke up that day, it was already ten in the morning. Your dad was probably up and at his job already, your mom would have had the day off today, and Briana had a play date with a friend. The house would have been completely yours.

Happy with such a thought, you sprung out of bed as you normally did on a Saturday morning without garage sales to worry about. But before you could make a dash to the computer, you noticed that some sort of package had fallen to the floor when you jumped to your feet. It must have been placed on top your bed for you to wake up to.

"Huh? What's this?" you asked, picking up the strange bundle of paper.

It looked like a gift that had hastily wrapped together, something your crazy Uncle Ted would have given you for Christmas. It was brown paper held together with a bit of string. Curiosity overwhelmed you and you quickly tore the package open.

"Wait, isn't this...?"

Within the brown paper was the very pink robe and matching slippers you had bought for your mother. At first you thought you had mistakenly forgotten about her birthday and kept the present in your room, but then you realized that the wrapping was all wrong. You had used proper wrapping paper, meaning someone had already unwrapped her gift and wrapped it up again in this inferior encasement. Before you could question what was going on, you noticed a slip of note paper on top of the clothing. You read it to yourself.

Johnny,

Thanks for getting me the best present ever, you really are so sweet to give me a vacation from everything. I imagine this wasn't what you intended though, so I'll try to explain things as best as I can through notes.

That being said, there needs to be a first step before I tell you anything. I know this may seem weird and mysterious, honey, but I want you to wear the robe and slippers you gave me. After you do this, head to my room and check my dresser for another note.

You can call this a scavenger hunt. Thanks for the great birthday, sweetie!

Mom

You didn't quite know what to make of the note. Among the many bizarre request from your mother over the years, including the time you started acting like a dog when you were three and she asked you to wear a leash, this was the strangest. The robe was clearly for a woman and the slippers wouldn't fit on your much bigger feet. At best it would be really awkward and at worst horribly embarrassing if someone were to walk in on you.

Yet it was still your mom's birthday, and she had always been a little odd like this. You could always just play her game. You decided to...

You have the following choices:

1. Wear the robes.

*Noteb*
2. Forget it and check out the other note.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
