"Thanks for coming with me to girl's night, hon." smiled Grace to her boyfriend James as they walked up the steps to their friend's house. "It was so nice of you to agree after Tyler's friends all bailed on him, and Christina thought he would feel awkward being the only guy."
"What can I say? I'm a pretty nice guy." said James, kissing his girlfriend on the lips before ringing the doorbell. "We'll probably just play xbox while you girls drink wine and talk about boys, or whatever it is you girls do on girl's night."
"Door's open!" They heard Christina yell. The couple made their way inside to see that everyone was already there, drinks in hand.
Caitlin, dressed in a large grey shirt and black leggings (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0115/5...), was the first to greet them with a hug as they walked through the entrance way and into the kitchen where everyone was gathered. "Grace! I feel like I never see you anymore now that finals are coming up!"
The athletic girl gave an awkward smile. "Yeah... Between the mountain of homework I'm buried in and training, I barely have time for anything else, or anyone. Student athlete life is hard. This is the first night off I've had since the semester started, it seems."
"Sounds like you need some wine." said Erin, bringing her friend a very full glass of pinot noir. "I like your outfit by the way."
"Thanks! It's not often I get to wear dresses, so I figured I should take advantage of it." Grace said, twirling around to show off her outfit (https://images.lululemon.com/is/image/lu...$pdp_zoom$) "Since it's also Lululemon, it also counts as athletic wear, so I don't feel too awkward in it."
"Don't be silly Gracie. I was talking to your boyfriend. I love that Nightwing shirt, Brendan. Where did you get it?" (http://ih0.redbubble.net/image.114066478...)
Brendan chucked at the misdirection from Erin before . She was always a bit of a joker. "This old thing? Why, the internet, of course." he replied "You can find anything there. Your Harley Quinn dress is pretty sweet too." (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0115/5...)
"So good at the girl talk already." laughed Christina. "Can I get you anything to drink, Jay?" She was dressed in a pair of jeans and a plaid shirt.
James replied, "No thanks. Someone has to drive Grace home when she's done drinking all of your wine."
Grace quickly interjected. "Hey now. I don't plan on getting that drunk tonight."
"Famous last words!" shouted Tyler, dressed in his jeans and a plain white t-shirt. "I remember when you'd say that back in high school too, then I'd find myself holding your hair back three hours later."
Grace quickly changed the subject before she could be further embarrassed. "So are we playing poker again tonight, or what?"
"Oh yeah! That would be really fun, especially now that the boys are here!" said Caitlin, her enthusiasm rising.
Tyler looked at his girlfriend confused. "Girl's night has just been code for poker night this whole time?"
"Not really, Ty. This is a special kind of poker. See, back in our first year, Christina bought a magical deck of cards, where if you win a hand, you get to say 'I want to swap blank with blank, but you only have two minutes to decide, or the cards pick for you." explained Erin.
"Do you mean, like, clothing..." asked James.
"Nope." said Caitlin. "Body parts. Like Erin said. It's magic."
"And you don't have to worry about looking weird at work or anything. It changes reality so that everyone not playing the game thinks that however you look is how you always were." said Christina, returning from her room where she hid the cards. "It's been fun keeping both the cards and some of the swaps a secret from you all this time, but I suppose we can let you boys in on the game."
"Well this just sounds ludicrous. you ladies believe in magic AND you believe you can beat me at poker?" scoffed James.
Grace, knew James could never turn down a challenge, and thought it would be fun to finally bring him into the world of changes she had been playing with for the last few years. "Sounds like a challenge, mister unbeatable. Why don't we play a few hands, so that you can put your money where your mouth is. Or in this case, your mouth where someone else's mouth is." This last comment caused the girls to erupt in a fit of giggles.
"You're on, missy. Let play." indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
