Rising above the crowd. She was just on her arms as she lifted herself above the mass of women. Ranma then noticed some other women were abnormally tall, measuring in the 10ft to 20ft range, but this titan beat them by a large distance.
"You take Shampoo's food. Fight Shampoo for it," she declared. Ranma and Genma looked at each other for a brief moment. Fear was an appropriate response, and considered running when an old woman who looked to be six feet tall walking with a larger staff came by. The guide bowed to her.
"Honorable Matriarch, please forgive them," the guide said. "They don't understand customs."
"Appeasement could have happened in other ways, but the young woman offered to fight for it," Cologne said. "Shampoo accepted the offer. It cannot be broken now."
"I'm expected to fight that... person?" Ranma asked, pointing at Shampoo. "To Hell with that!" Cologne chuckled.
"You remind me of a young lad from the autumn festival," Cologne said. "He was Chinese, but didn't come from these lands. He too took from the Champion's banquet and ran off. He was captured and replaced the food and then some with his own body."
"Replaced it with his?" Ranma muttered. She didn't get it at all, but Genma sweat in his panda form.
"Foolish whelp! The giantess ate him! the sign stated. Ranma looked at the sign and then the guide, who nodded.
"Will I be eaten if I lose?" Ranma asked. If so, better run now and hope for the best.
"No.If Shampoo succeeds, you will be made to pay back the cost of the food you ate by physical labor. If you win, honor must be satisfied," Cologne said.
"What the hell does that mean?" Ranma asked.
"Sir, great champion hasn't lost bout in 10 years since she grew past 20ft tall. No telling what she might do," the guide said. Cologne took note of the phrasing.
"We aren't heartless. You will challenge her like all do," Cologne said. She said something to one of the fellow village people in Chinese. The guide nodded once. "Come with me." Cologne walked into the crowd. Despite some women being taller, all gave Cologne a wide berth. Ranma gulped but followed the woman.
"So, what do I got to do?" Ranma asked as Shampoo's size came into view. Her head and hands were at the log with her body stretching down . How she got such nice clothes was beyond him.
"It is a simple survival test. You will have five minutes. Stay on the long and be unpinned, and you win," Cologne said. "Shampoo is only able to flick you and push you with her fingers. Grabbing you is not allowed."
"And squashing me?" Ranma looked at an imprint Shampoo made in the soft ground. Her hand was longer than him.
"Not in this case, unless you wish to change the conditions of the fight," Cologne said. "If you can stay on the log, you win. While Shampoo must keep one finger on the log at all times, jumping is fine for you as long as you land on the log." Ranma felt genuine fear as he looked at the annoyed face of the champion. Hanging dozens of feet in the air, the head which was over three times his own height smiled at him in a cocky way.
"Tiny girl think she can win? Like small flee," Shampoo mocked.
"Hey, you think just because you're big, you're unbeatable! Got news for ya! You're going down!" The crowd which understood Japanese cheered at Ranma's words. They loved a good fight and seeing Ranma have the courage to face Shampoo was exciting.
"You both understand the conditions. Get on the log," Cologne said. Ranma ignored the ladder some were putting up and jumped onto the log. "You have until the sands run out of the glass!" Ranma saw an hourglass and a gong in the distance. Shampoo put her fingers on the log like they were a normal person. The ring and middle made the legs, leaving the pinky and index as the arms.
"Let's do this," Ranma said as she pumped herself up more. Shampoo's wide smile showed her teeth. The gong was hit. The battle began.
