The cool air of the evening washed over the land but Marina's fur kept her insulated from the chill and her new ears allowed her to hear the symphony of the forest. Aromas flooded her nose with the fragrant smells of woodland pines and wild flowers when her nose caught the scent of something more ominous. The distinctive odor of wolf scent markings warned the primitive part of her brain that she was entering the territory of a hostile predator. Marina's civilized brain forced the fear to the back of her mind because she was on a mission was more important than avoiding every potential danger that could lurk in the woods.
It wasn't until Marina had heard the snapping of a twig from a young wolf did she realize the danger was very real. It was one to study the food chain and understand it, but quite another to become part of it. Being hunted down to feed a pack of hungry wolves was a terrifying thought and brought speed to movement through the forest. Grey, Black and white shadows raced after the frightened spell-caster with no thoughts of her status in the kingdom of Dar only thoughts of empty bellies becoming full filled their animal minds.
Marina's hoofs were keeping her ahead of the wolves but for how long? She had been running the woods for a while now and fatigue was beginning to catch up to her. It would be extremely dangerous to lose her speed before the pack lost interest and went after easier prey, but her alternatives to running weren't much better. Swift magic would be required to save her life if she chose that route but it was dangerous with the magic she had cast and could create untold side effects and she wasn't sure whether it would be better to take another animal form or take on human form to give her greater access to her magic.
