A distinct odor of death began to permeate the air. The smell grew stronger and Sir Garrett readied himself as he heard shuffling and moaning begin to approach. Sir Garrett made a prayer to the gods that they give him strength in the upcoming fight. Sir Garrett surveyed his surroundings and found a large boulder that Albert and he could protect themselves from becoming surrounded. He motioned to Albert who quickly nodded assent and moved to the boulder.
The mass of undead began emerge from the swamp. Their bloated decayed state and unintelligent shuffle toward the pair lead Sir Garrett to believe they were zombies. Zombies did not become a problem until they reached a horde state like this. The question on Sir Garrett's mind was their creator with them and controlling their action now. Zombies liked to go after the nearest intelligent life and destroy it normally. They might wander around randomly if not controlled. Something guided the horde together the question remained did it still push them.
Sir Garrett and Albert took shots at the zombies with their crossbows while the horde moved to them. Well placed head shots brought down some of the larger ones they targeted. The zombies that got touched by the falling zombies became distracted by the sudden sensation. Sir Garrett figured they must have been let loose by whoever created them. Zombies the someone controlling them rarely deviated from their target . Sir Garrett could not be sure how many there were with them pouring out of the forest. He decided to make a stand here instead of running because zombies ceaselessly pursued their target tirelessly. He also did not want to risk someone less prepared coming across them. His duty stood before him.
Sir Garrett and Lord Albert dropped their crossbows as the zombies came into melee range. They pulled out their swords and steeled themselves to the oncoming onslaught. Sir Garrett's blade struck home with precision and ferocity. Sir Garrett kept the rage in check while he bashed away zombies with his shield causing them to fall with their poor dexterity into each other. The domino effect of them falling into each gave space in front of Sir Garrett. He used the space as a kill zone for the next wave of zombies.
