Direct Path

The black circle enjoyed the aide of dark magic. What brought one of them to an average village like Green Vale was probably the allure of some forgotten magical artifact. Karas guessed that King Emeril wished to avoid direct conflict with the powerful order of the knights. They looked poorly on those who interfered in their quests for more dark magic.

Karas snuck down toward the middle of town using the side alleys where he heard the bellowing of a commanding voice. The voice said, “One of you knows where the Artifact is! My patience wears thin and I find your lives to be quite expendable.”

Karas observed a large knight in obsidian colored armor pacing a group of frightened villagers waving his sword around. Five skeleton warriors stood watch as well controlled by some item of the knight’s. They patiently awaited their next command. The skeleton might go berserk if their master died but Karas took careful aim at the knight not caring. The first head shot struck the target followed by another four shots each hitting home. The knight stumbled blood streaming out the helm. Karas pressed the attack loosing arrow after arrow into the black knight’s chest as he approached the fallen knight. The villagers screamed jumping to their feet and running in every direction. The skeletons sprang to action raising their blades going after the fleeing villagers.

Karas dismissed going after the skeletons as the true danger lay in the black knight. The Knight yelled out, “You dare attack Argus of the black circle you will pay for your foolishness. Restoration ring activate.” The knight stood up with a glowing disintegrating on his hand as the arrows fell out and all wounds vanished. The holes in the armor with the bloodstains remained. Karas pulled out a Warhammer walking straight to Argus conserving energy till needed. Argus drew out a long sword that began to burn when released from the sheathe. Argus swung the flame sword at Karas but he leapt forward striking with his Warhammer at Argus’s knee. Karas swung the hammer up and around bringing it down Argus’s head. Karas dropped on the back of the knight letting go of the hammer pulling a dagger and driving it into the back of Argus’s neck. He twisted it into the causing blood to spurt up onto Karas. Argus struggled to get up but Karas held on with his left hand as he stabbed the exposed neck until Argus collapsed.

Karas finished his job on the neck by ripping the head off. He didn’t plan to leave this to chance not knowing what magic items he might have. He heard the cries of villagers in the distance but grabbed the flame sword to continue removing the appendages. There would be no magical resurrections if he could help it. He used a flame strike to destroy the head of the second-rate knight.
