Mimics were dangerous creatures to hunt and it was tempting to try and find what she needed at one of the magical markets around the world but that was likely to take more time. The fear of mimics and doppelgangers had caused the King to have built special detecting devices around the kingdom. One of them had recently been detected at the edge of the kingdom. Knowing the general location would ease the hunt a great deal and missing people would narrow the hunt.
Doppelgangers were just a group trying to prevent themselves from being exterminated or exploited but mimics were deadly predators who hunted and ate just about whatever they could catch. She reviewed her books on the creatures hoping that she would discover some sort of weakness to the creature that she didn’t remember but there was nothing new to her. Marina would have to be careful that she wasn’t the one to be taken down by the monster.
Arriving at the town of Crescent Falls to the delight of a thunderstorm drenching her. She wanted to curl up in a hot bath and soak for several hours but she wasn’t even sure the small farming town had an inn for her to stay at, much less hot water. Her robes clung to her body as she brought her horse down the main road of town. A few lights could be seen in houses as she arrived in the town gave her hope the mimic had yet to arrive in town and wasn’t one of the more dangerous kinds that were rumored about in legends. Perhaps she could get a good night’s sleep before the hunt truly began.
She thanked the gods when she saw an inn up ahead of her and pulled her horse to a halt in front of it.
