The rogue needed to have more information before she was going to stick her neck out on this one. Cultist were fanatics who would spend the rest of their pathetic lives hunting you if you harmed their group and Basha was one of the worst groups to go against. Not only were many of the members' skilled hunters and trackers but dark bargains were often made to increase powers or give magic. The god they served could be very generous as long as their hunts pleased him.
She shuddered at the thought of being part of their hunts. Sentient beings turned into animals and hunted to amuse a sadistic god was not her idea of fun but she had reasons to go after them and not least of which was the fact they had a lot of loot that could set her up for the rest of her life. Seras would have to decide somewhere to retire far from these lands and the cultists. It would involve a new identity but she actually enjoyed creating them at this point.
Outnumbered, out magicked and they had a god on their side, a tall order for even a thief of her caliber, she would need to get more information before she committed to this mission by the King. It wouldn’t surprise her if this was a death trap set up by King Emeril for her, she knew a lot more secrets about the running of the kingdom and some of the horrifying decisions that had been made over the years than a ruler would be comfortable with her having.
There was a chill in the air as she went lower and lower into the sewers to find a source of information she trusted. It was a maze that few would ever be able to find their way out of but she had grown up here in the not very forgiving bosom of the goddess of thieves. When she was a child she had found the shrine but she rarely visited it. Having any of the celestials in your life was troublesome than it was worth to her mind but she would need all of the help she could get because the other side had a god on their side.
A series of locked doors blocked her path, she could no longer go down the path she had taken as a child but she had no problem with the locks but it delayed her longer than she wanted. The less time spent here the better, she could feel the eyes of Nanara upon her constantly judging her just like all of her childhood. The room was lined with amazing treasure that could step up a room full of people for a dozen lifetimes. Each one was the traps or cursed in some way by the goddess sometimes with more than one deadly protection upon them. There were rumors that some had gotten treasures out without consequences to retire to the life of luxury but those tales were long on rumor and short on truth.
She stood in front of the statue and set down her offering before speaking.
