Melis didn’t want to be judged by a strange group of villagers. No doubt the Archmage would laugh at her when he came along to see her error. She would prevent that by solving the problem herself. It was tempting to check out the bookshelves, but she was more familiar with potions. Besides, he likely had another trap set up for the bookcase. He had snapped at her whenever she had tried to touch his books.
She paused momentarily to look around for any danger, but she was still alone. Melis rushed across the room to the table. Despite hearing the gurgling of liquids above her it was much further than she would have liked. Her climbing skills had never really been put to the test. She spotted a chair close to the table and decided to attempt it.
At her current size, the chair had handholds than if she were normal size. A small prayer for strength caused her to surge with power. There was no reason to trust in just her limited climbing ability. Melis hoped no one would see her in this helpless and more than a little embarrassing situation.
