Not wanting to bear the cold any longer, Isabel decided to find the nearest structure with heating. The gym was rather isolated from anything else. Most of the complex was just an echo of the shops that existed years ago; except for the donut shop and deli across the parking lot. It was probably reaching 7 in the morning by now and it would be another half-hour of waiting before either store opened. A gust of wind further implanted the idea in Isabel’s mind that it would be useless to stay here.
Taking the path back to her apartment, Isabel tried to warm herself up by jogging but the ever-present cold kept her to walking with hands desperately rubbing every exposed part of her body. “W-Wh-What the hell is with this weather?!? I feel like I’m going to die of hypothermia if I don’t get-” she cut herself off when she saw it.
It was just another unit of the coffee chain that seemed to reside in 54% of the buildings on the planet and local solar systems. She was pretty sure this was the fifth one she passed today. The establishment itself was compact to say the least. One could easily miss it if that gaudy recognizable sign wasn’t out front. Though none of these particular facts registered in Isabel, the only thought in her skull as she stood there, hunched over and her breath shaky, was “the miracle lighting of the ‘Open’ sign.”
“T-Thank god,” Isabel cried as she imagined her sudden reunion with warmth...
She mustered up all of her energy, readying herself as if was about to pounce through the door!
