Chapter #5

Going to the Zolcak's home

James gasped as the car pulled up the drive. "That's our house!?" he asked in amazement.

"Yes dear, of course," Sarah answered. She noticed the hired limo driver's curious glance and whispered to James "I know it's exciting but play it cool. Remember, this is your home, ARIEL. You've lived here several years."

James nodded, barely registering her words. The home looked like some kind of castle - he'd never been inside a house so large.

The limo let them out and they approached the door. A dark skinned woman in casual clothes met them at the door. "Kim! Ariel! It's so good to have you home. Are you okay? I wanted to come see you but the hospital wouldn't let me visit - 'family only'," she greeted them warmly, hugging each of them in turn. James thought it was fortunate that Kim's ex-husband and other daughter were in Europe. By the time they got the news about the 'accident', Sarah was conscious and able to convince them not to come back - that she and Ariel were fine, just being kept for observation.

James looked at the house in wonder as they walked through. Sarah kept her composure and elbowed him in the side, telling him to "act normal" under her breath. Apparently while James had been trying to adapt to his new body and then learn about Ariel's personal life, Sarah had thrown herself into the details of the Zolcak's world - the house, their staff & friends, and everything else she could find. Whether it was pieces of Kim's personality & memories drifting in, or Sarah's own new "take charge" approach, she seemed to already have a handle on things.

As they went up the stairs, James felt an instinctive pull to his right. He turned that way and walked into a huge bedroom decorated in pastels, with flowing drapes and cute furniture. James squealed in delight then caught himself. 'Why did I do that?' he asked himself. He slowly walked through the room, touching everything lightly as he went past. A large, pink teddy bear caught his attention. He felt an immediate need for it, so he grabbed it and hugged it to his chest. For some reason it gave him a feeling of 'home'.

A thought occurred to him to change into something more comfortable. In his mind that meant a tshirt and jeans or shorts. But without really thinking he pulled some clothes out of the closet, slipped on some 'comfy' shoes, and went outside to enjoy the sun. He was outside for several minutes admiring the flowers when he realized his clothing was not at all what he intended. Instead of dressing 'down', he was not in a cute, short pink skirt and halter top. His shoes were chunky heeled, almost platformed. He even had on some cute matching bracelets. 'What is happening to me?' he wondered as he idly twirled his long hair.
