Dani entered Section F where she was greeted by two women.
The first, a thin brunette wearing a black dress and glasses stepped forward and extended her hand. “Dani, I’m Dr. Anna Marker, a PhD researcher on the subject of obesity. I’ll be monitoring a series of elements as you gain weight.”
Dani shook her hand and the next woman, a chunky blonde in a red dress moved toward Dani for a shake. “And I’m Dr. Janet Glass, a PhD food scientist. It’s my job to get you fat, fast! I’m really excited, because we’re going to be testing a combination of appetite enhancers and food additives that are going to help you pack pounds onto that skinny little body of yours!”
“Great.” Dani muttered.
“Don’t be so down.” Dr. Glass said. “I’ve seen the projections - you’re going to be a really hot fat chick! Plus, I’m going to make it fun! Now, what’s your favorite food?”
Dani maintained a very strict diet to stay fit. She never indulged. “I don’t know, a skinless chicken breast?”
“That’s not fun!” Dr. Glass chided. “Come on, let me show you something.”
The three women walked over to a wall with a button and a small rolling door. When Dr. glass pushed a button, the door opened, revealing a plate with a cheeseburger and French fries, a parfait glass with a milkshake, and a slice of chocolate cake on a separate plate.
“Now THIS is fun!” Dr. Glass exclaimed. “Come on, dig in.”
“If I must.” Dani said.
She felt very self-conscious, eating in front of the doctors, but Dani made her way through the meal.
When she finished the last bite of cake, Dr. Glass asked her, “How was it?”
“Good, I guess.” Dani answered. “I haven’t had a meal like that in years.”
“Pretty full, I bet.” Dr. Glass said.
Dani thought that she should be, but really didn’t feel it. “Surprisingly, no.”
“Amazing, right?!” Glass exclaimed. “This is what I’ve been working on! Let’s get you something else.”
With that, she pushed a button, the door reopened, and behind it was a plate of fettuccine Alfredo with garlic bread, a glass of wine, and a pair of giant cannoli.
Dani devoured the food without hesitation.
“Still hungry?” Dr. Glass asked her.
“I think I’m more hungry than I was before.” Dani said. “How’s that possible?”
“Science!” Glass answered. “You’re not full?”
“No.” Dani replied. “Not even a little.”
“Well, let’s get you something else.” Glass said, pushing the button again, revealing fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, biscuits, a large soda, and an ice cream sundae.
“Janet.” Dr. Marker spoke for the first time since her introduction. “I think she’s had enough.”
“Nonsense!” Glass shouted. “See, she’s already eating!”
It was true. Dani had finished the mashed potatoes and was eating the chicken.
“She’s going to get sick soon.” Marker stated. “Look at her waist.”
Dani looked like an expectant mother in the first trimester, belly pushing firmly against her green dress.
“Just because she doesn’t feel full doesn’t mean she isn’t.” Marker pointed out.
“Dani, that’s enough.” Marker suggested.
Dani looked at her with concern in her eyes. “I want to stop, but I’m so hungry.” She then started spooning the sundae into her mouth..
“She’s almost done.” Glass said, smiling. “She can take it.”
Sure enough, Dani downed the last of the ice cream and gulped down the soda.
“I think I’m going to throw up.” Dani groaned.
“Are you full, Dani?” Glass asked.
“No.” Dani replied.
“Are you hungry?” Glass queried again.
“Oh God, yes.” Dani responded. “But how? I want to puke.”
“Science...” Glass said with a smile. “I agree with Dr. Marker, though. You probably need to lie down - we’ll get you more to eat in a little bit.”
Glass and Marker guided Dani to an adjacent suite and laid her on the bed. Marker stood with mouth agape looking at the tiny Dani laying on her side with a volleyball sized bulge under her dress.
After they left, the two doctors talked.
“That went well!” Glass bragged.
“She ate 15,000 calories and nearly vomited them back out.” Marker said. “Don’t be so greedy.”
“I’ll try and hold back.” Glass said. “These agents are amazing, though. They tolerate having their limits tested so well.”
“Like the last one?” Marker asked.
“That was unfortunate, but I think we learned some lessons.” Glass admitted.
“I hope so.” Marker replied. “We’ve got to have Dani ready to go in six months. There won’t be time to try again.”
“She’ll be the most well-rounded agent in the organization by then.” Glass assured her.
“Just not too round this time, Janet.” Market said. “Fat but functional.”
“Indeed, Anna.” Glass agreed.
