Chapter #5

She's human, your size

    by: Spiral-and-Twist Author IconMail Icon
Into the lobby came a small, petite, frail-looking woman, but a stern expression on her face. She trotted up to Cadence towing a pull-along traveling bag behind her, walking right up to the zombie girl's feet."Cadence, it's so good to see you again!"She piped up. Cadence replied with a moan that sounded like Hi mom. The giant undead knelt down and placed you on the floor, looking at her human mother with a mixture of happiness and and uncertainty.

"C'mon, give momma a hug..."Cadence's mother said, completely ignoring you. Cadence gently picked her up and hugged her to her face like she was a small doll. After the touching ordeal was done, Cadence placed her down beside you and picked up the bag with her index finger and thumb.Follow me. She seemed to grunt out again, stood up, and took slow strides, allowing you and her mother, much smaller, to follow behind easily.

"Hey. I'm R.L., Cadence's roommate."You say after a long silence. She haughtily looked over at you.

"I'm Heidi."She replied, giving you a once over with a stern gaze."Ah yes...The man with the initials for a name. My daughter's spoken much about you in her letters."She replied. You perked up at that."She says you're always getting into trouble around here, and very few of the neighbors like you."

Your shoulders sagged a tad.

The two of you followed behind the giant zombie for some time, the awkward silence heavy amongst you."So uhh..."You began again."How long has uh...Cadence been a zombie?"You ask. You had asked Cadence beforehand, but when she replied, you barely understood her at all. Maybe you could get a straight answer from somebody who could speak properly?

"Please refrain from using the 'Z' word please..."She cringed a little."I believe Cadence prefers to be called 'Undead' or even 'Living Challenged."

You've never heard that from Cadence herself. Have you been hurting her feelings all this time you've been calling her a zombie? That left a bad feeling in your stomach.

"Anyways..."Heidi interrupted."To answer your question, Cadence...ceased breathing when she was very young, around her early twenties, that was nearly fifteen years ago. The very next day after her funeral, we have a 300ft. version of my deceased daughter walking around, trying to communicate with groans and moans."

"S...you're cool with your daughter being a zom-....uh...Undead?"You caught yourself. Heidi looked up at her daughter before looking back at you with her reply.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. "I absolutely hate it."

2. "She's still my daughter, I still love her."

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
