Lucy had been honestly concerned about her friend - and who wouldn't be, after what the poor girl had just gone through? Some of the students at this school could be really vicious...
As soon as Angie was gone, despite her promise, Lucy knew she had her own battles to fight on Angie's behalf. She marched into the principal's office to report what had happened.
The principal, Mr Heinrich, blanched at the news. He wasn't one who paid much attention to the actions of his students, and even less someone who wanted to make an enemy of the Barnes family; but hearing about this kind of blatant cruelty was a bridge too far, even for him. Besides which, more callously, even he could see an obvious lawsuit in the making.
"Thank you for letting us know, Lisa,"
"Lucy."
"Right. We have to get in front of this. You don't know where your friend went?"
"No... I mean, I guess she probably went home..."
Mr Heinrich exchanged a worried look with his assistant, Hannah.
"I'll drive out and start looking," she said to his unspoken request, already looking for her keys.
"Thank you. Maybe take this one with you," he said, indicating Lucy, "I'm going to call her parents. And then..." A heavy sigh, "I'll have to get Ms Barnes in here."
