How about not "someone" finding the dictaphone, but some people, at once?

The magical thing and its mysterious ways appearing not just to one person, but several?
Can multiple people claim ownership on the dictaphone?
Would they try to share it fairly?
Could they even do that?
What would be the end results of not one person messing around with the powerful device, but several?

And what if the Dictaphone ends up not in the hands of our main protagonist(s) (whoever they may be) but in the hands of an external actor?
An external someone unknown from our protagonist(s)' point(s) of view?
A dictaphone manipulated in the shadow, by an unrevealed person (at least, for a time)?

How things would go from the eyes of not the dictaphone's beholder(s), but the ones who are the dictaphone's subjects or "playground", directly or indirectly, nonetheless?
