I saw two figures jump out of the rift just before it closed with a hollow boom, shaking the halls. The first was a young teenage girl, about Jenny's height with long jet black hair and green eyes. Standing next to her was a muscular boy of similar height with the same jet black hair but bright hazel eyes. Both were wearing school uniforms similar to what Starmage Academy requires. Looking at them, I was immediately aware that they were twins. Seeing the look in their eyes, I sensed that they felt a sense of urgency.
"We apologize for the dramatic entrance; rift portals are unstable at best." Serious, the boy announced. "Dean Tanaka and co-dean Elvira Smith are expecting us."
I sighed, seeing a number of prefects arriving on the scene. They seemed uneasy at the sight of the two visitors; they became unnerved as the girl spoke.
"I am Jessica Moray and this is my twin brother, Tex." Firmly but kindly, she said. "We are here on a mission to reclaim a stolen dangerous artifact we have traced down to this very school."
"This corrupted technological device is highly forbidden." Serious, Tex added. "It is a wishing orb created by a psychotic scientist that can and will ruin lives with each wish made upon it. It is imperative that we secure this device before any wish is made."
"Please escort us to the deans office so we may begin our search." Respectfully, Jessica said.
"Time is of the essence!" Dramatically, Tex announced. "Do not hesitate, lead the way!"
As the prefects led the two visitors towards the deans' office. I wondered if I should get involved or stay out of it.
