Chapter #4

Sera Was Never (into Skinnier Girls)

Krem was a beautiful man. That boy she sometimes (maybe?) saw was pretty cute. Neither of them, however, were so attractive that Maryden felt compelled write a song about them. Sera was. The Elven archer had only been at Haven at short while before she captured the minstrel’s heart, and on a whim Maryden wrote the song and began to preform it. Sure, she knew some might think it was a little creepy, after all they were acquaintances at best, but Maryden knew that music was the only medium through which true emotion could manifest. A song could be complex, dark, and serious, or simple, pure, and fun. Like Sera, and she felt Sera Was Never perfectly captured that. Plus, she was shit at flirting.

She was far a bumbling fool, but all her pickup lines either fell flat or completely went over people’s heads. They were closer to bad jokes than what anyone would consider a pickup line. Still, Maryden felt she should have stuck to flirting than writing the song, since it only seemed to make Sera feel uncomfortable; she would stop playing it if she didn’t get a sovereign from patrons requesting her to play it.

There was only one hope for Maryden if she wanted to win Sera over. At the end of every day she would sit down and write in her journal, and leave it on a barrel outside her room when she was done. Maryden didn’t want to read it. She knew it was wrong to invade something so private for personal gain. But she was going to do it anyway.

One day while Sera was out in the field with the Inquisitor, she snatched the book and started to look through it for anything that would help her woo Sera. It was mostly filled with short sentences; thoughts written down the second they entered Sera’s head. It was also filled with cute little doodles along with impressive sketches. -I think that minstrel Maryden is chatting me up. The song is creepy. That wasn’t a good sign. It was the only place she was mentioned and it was in a negative light. Then she started to notice a pattern.

-Baldy says Dalish don’t get fat. Didn’t think I could hate them more.
-Selling and buying people so you can get fatter? Instant bitch. Nice arse though. Won’t save her.
-Kerm should get fat. Don’t need to bind if they’re moobs.
-Met a lady Qunari. Tall. Fat. Woof.

As she read it became very clear that Sera had fat on the brain fairly often. One might even think she admired it. An idea then popped into Maryden’s head, and she put the book back in it’s place and sprinted to go carry it out.
