It had only been a few hours since your fateful encounter with Velvet, the bunny girl. In that time the two of you had covered a lot of ground towards the port town. In another 2 hours the two of you would find safety behind the walls of the small port town. Seeing the distance the two of you had managed to cover, coupled with surprisingly loud, bestial growls coming from a very embarrassed Velvet's stomach, you figured a quick snack break was an order. Besides, Velvet may be really cute but you had no desire to end up filling her belly. You were likely already pushing things seeing as how you doubted the poor bunny had any time to eat while fleeing the Ogrenette.
Still, who would have guessed that a hungry monster girl would be so picky in what she ate.
"I'm sorry Velvet, but that's really all I've got right now." You can't help but feel bad at learning how little of the travel food you brought along actually appealed to her. This was only compounded by the dejected pout on her face as she miserably nibbled at some dried fruit.
"Just because I'm a bunny girl doesn't mean fruits and vegetables are my preferred foods," the girl muttered while forcing herself to chew and swallow what you had given her.
"Again I'm sorry. I didn't pack with having a pretty bunny girl companion in mind." You hoped the compliment would help lift her mood. Judging from the slight pause in her chewing and the light pink dusting her cheeks you'd say it worked. "Besides, you've already tried the dried meats I brought and you remember how that went," you say, waging the jerky in your hand. You make a mental note to look into what meats you could bring on your trip that Velvet would enjoy. Human meat was after all not something you planned to serve without good reason.
"How about this. The inn I'm planning to stay at has a tavern on the bottom floor. Once we get all things we need, armor, weapons, supplies, etc. I'll get you a big helping of meat at the tavern. Then you can rest in the room we rent. I doubt you've been able to get much sleep after all."
Velvet seems to perk up greatly at hearing this and before you know it your back on the road with an excited bunny girl pulling you along. Despite how hard it is keeping up you can't help but smile at your companions back. This trip would have been far more lonely without her.
Unknown to you, Velvet is also thinking about her companion and how grateful she is at having met him. Her mind is running with countless possibilities of what the two of you might go through together. One thought however causes her cheeks to redden and her heart to speed up. She inwardly promised herself that if you did keep your promise to her, then no matter what others might think of her for it, she would take you as her lifelong mate.
Seeing as how Velvet was getting lost in her fantasies of romance and adventure, she failed to notice the shifting in the foliage just ahead. Thankfully, you manage to pick up on it just in time to plant your feet and pull back. This caused Velvet to come crashing out of her thoughts as she stumbled and nearly fell backwards. She was only still standing due to you grabbing ahold of her before positioning yourself between her and whatever was hiding in the bushes. Drawing your wooden sword you stand at the ready for whatever might jump out at you.
