Chapter #6

An ordinary girl...?

    by: immortalfrieza Author IconMail Icon
You come across a young woman that looks to be about your age sitting on the ground picking flowers in a field near the path. She doesn't seem to have noticed you yet. The woman is gorgeous with long blond hair and oddly pale skin. You can't put your finger on it, but there's something... off about her. She hums quietly to herself as she picks various flowers and puts them into a basket she's holding.

"Uh... Hello?" You say. "Meep!" The woman says cutely as you startle her. She spins around and looks at you. "Who..." She looks down and notices your wooden sword. "No... no no please don't hurt me! I'm not bad!" She inches away from you, her eyes filled with fear. "Hey..." You say as gently as you can and hold up your hands. "I'm not going to hurt you." She looks at you dumbfounded for a moment. "You're not...?" Gradually she calms down and gets to her feet. Once again it strikes you that she's... different somehow, but you're not sure what gives you that impression. She obviously wasn't wealthy or even decently off, she's wearing a threadbare long skirt and shirt that looked like it had been mended a half dozen times and carrying a simple wicker basket. The oddest thing you notice is that she's barefoot, and as far as you know there isn't a village or anything for miles.

Well, maybe that's not the oddest thing. She looks really shy, but the way she looks at you... there's something unsettling about it. The woman just stares at you without talking while you ruminate, though you can't fault her for that considering you're doing the same. "Um... Miss? Are you alright?" You finally say. "O-oh! I'm fine!" The woman says, the nervousness in her voice is obvious. She sweeps her hair back with a hand and smiles sheepishly. "What are you doing out here?" You ask. "Just picking flowers." She holds out the basket. "I sell them over at Mineva and the villages." You tilt your head at that. "Isn't it dangerous?" She nods. "Sometimes it can be, but there aren't ot... any monsters around here." She smiles.

"Well... I'm Erik." You reach out a hand and she takes it. It was fairly hot out today, but her hands were surprisingly cool to the touch. "M-Mina." She shakes your hand and she's blushing hard just touching your hand. She looks away from you and seems to be thinking. "Mr. Erik?" You nod. "Just Erik. What can I do for you?" Mina takes a breath, she seems to be bracing herself. "I've just about got a full stock. Could you escort me to the port?" Mina asks, sounding a bit wary. "Of course. Are you ready to go?" Mina gasps. "Oh! Yeah sure I'm ready when you are." You notice aside from the basket she's not carrying anything. "You sure? You don't seem to have anything to eat." At this she freezes for a moment, then relaxes. "I never have much. I'll have to sell the flowers and grab something when we get to the port." You aren't surprised. Based on the condition of her clothes you had already guessed that she's probably pretty poor.

"Well... um... Let's go!" Mina says, she has this mousey voice you can't help but find endearing. You walk to the path and continue on your way with your new companion.
