“Wow…” Rebecca fawned over the state of your house. This was the first time that Rebecca had ever been over to your house, so you took the liberty of showing her around. It wasn’t big, but it wasn’t small either. After you finished showing her around, the two of you sat down on your couch. “Your house is amazing.” Rebecca said.
“I’m glad you think so.” you smiled. “Would you like to watch a movie?”
“You know what? A movie sounds great!”
At the exact moment that you heard Rebecca’s response, you decided that today would be the day that you would pop the question. No, not THAT question! The smaller one! You’d ask Rebecca if she liked you. Even though you were pretty sure that she only liked you as a friend, considering her interest in Yugi, you figured that it couldn’t hurt to at least ask. Well… it might. Your friendship with her would probably be ruined, and if not, it wouldn’t be the same. Still, you had to ask. These feelings were eating your insides and you had to get them out in the open… even if it meant losing a good friend…
To set the mood, you decided to watch a romantic comedy, closing the curtains (which you told her was just to reduce the glare), you then set about getting a bag of popcorn ready. With everything in place, you sat down beside Rebecca, putting the popcorn in between the both of you and began to watch the movie.
Just like at McDonald's, you felt Rebecca’s foot rub up against yours. You pretended to pay no heed to it and resumed watching the television, but Rebecca kept at it for pretty much the whole movie. In fact, the only time she didn't do it was when you hit pause on the remote because she had to go to the bathroom halfway through.
“Rebecca, do you like me?” you asked, looking over at her as the movie ended.
“What?” Rebecca asked. “Of course I like you, (name). I wouldn't be here if I didn't.”
“No… I mean, do you like me…?” you said, really enunciating the word ‘like’. You waited for Rebecca to say something, anything, but she didn't, so you continued. “See… the truth is… I think you’re really cute, and you’re such a nice person to be around. I've seen the way you look at Yugi, and it pains me, more than you realize, to see you vie for his affection and for him to give you no notice. He might not be able to see you for the beautiful person you are, but I can…”
Rebecca’s mouth dropped open slightly, and she seemed to be at a complete loss for words. She looked like she wanted to say something, her mouth opening and closing a couple times, so you waited patiently for her to gather her thoughts, understanding that you did kind of thrust the question on her without any sort of warning. Rebecca turned back, silently looking at the television, you in turn realizing that you may’ve come on a little too strong.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn't have come out and said all of that without a heads up. If I've made you feel at all uncomfortable, and you want to leave, that’s fine. I completely understand.”
Eventually, after what seemed to be the longest seconds of your life, Rebecca sighed, turning to face you head on.
