A Failure to Begin with

Momoko shook her head, she had wanted this. Without so much as a second thought, she slammed the gum into her mouth and began to mash it furiously between her teeth. The taste of blueberries came, rich and savory, but she couldn't quite feel what she had expected. Minutes passed, and the flavor soon faded away, not even a sign that this gum had been serious.

"Sorry everyone, looks to be a fake." She listened to a collective "Ahh..." as her classmates sighed. She sighed with them, hoping that maybe next time would be the right stick...
