Sylvia, watching 'little' Hank dig into his supper, was hopeful her older son would grow much bigger than his Dad - not that his Dad was finished growing!
No, at 35 Henry was only just starting to see his weight plateau... and what a plateau! While he'd not been the fattest or most handsome man in their classes at university, Henry had attracted Sylvia with his kind smile, his supportive nature, his loyalty, and his determined appetite. His appetite had only mushroomed after their marriage, leading to his gut burgeoning and his weight mounting, until he'd become the mountain of man she'd dreamed he could be.
Henry's chair creaked beneath him as he reached for more food, and Sylvia hurried removed the empty platters near Henry and Hank and replaced them with freshly filled ones. No man of hers ever left the table anything less than full, a policy her mother had modelled to her and that she now impressed on her menfolk.
More than an hour later, Henry laid down his fork, and sighed deeply. "Supper is always so good!" he breathed contentedly. He looked around, at Hank and his brother and sister, also filled to the brim and sitting, digesting. "So, kids, what do say to mom?" he intoned, as he always did at meals.
"Thank your for supper!" the three kids said as one.
"Thank you love, that was delicious!" Henry added. "I do think I'll just sit here and digest for a minute or two."
"Well then, the girls and I will just tidy up. And after that, perhaps we'll all...
