Mrs. Saffron pulled out three ancient looking objects from her bag. " Now I really shouldn't even be showing you these before they find a home in the museum, but I know that you'll be extremely careful and respectful when handling these items. Correct?" The class murmured in agreement.
The student passed around the three objects. " This is a piece of a bronze age pickaxe, be careful as it is still surprisingly sharp for its age. Next we have an urn found in Rome during last semester's excavation. The left half seems to have broken off, but we can see the remains of some writing on the side. Lastly we have a mayan doll or figurine." She held up a small doll made of clay of an extremely overweight woman, her belly pouring out and large breasts sitting on top. " Most likely a statue to bring good harvest or fertility. Maybe both."
Katie was scrolling through websites on her phone still smacking her gum, twisting her hair with one finger. Trina was amazed, especially be the doll. It was in great condition for something so old.
Trina passed her the axe, and then the urn. However, Katie had other things on her mind. Tonight was the largest sorority on campus' social, and this was the year she would get in. Whether she had to lie, cheat or steal, she was going to get in somehow. Trina was passing her the statue just as she clicked "attending" on the event's online page.
"Katie here, take it."
Katie was still reading through who else would be there, her competition. She couldn't believe who was going.
"Katie, come on." Trina said, growing impatient and placing it in her hand.
"Fine whatever!" Katie angrily turned towards Trina not paying attention. The Statue rolled from Katie's hands, falling to the floor and breaking into a hundred pieces. A strange dust rose from out of the center, quite unnaturally.
"Ladies! What did I say?! This is Inexcusable!" Mrs. Saffron was furious.
"Trina you dumb clutz! *cough* You broke it!" Katie exclaimed, coughing on the dust coming from the statue. No one else seemed to be effected. " It was her fault *cough* Mrs. Saffron!"
Trina just sat there looking mortified, so embarrassed and ashamed.
" Katie go to the nurses office to make sure you weren't cut by anything. Trina you'll be staying after class the next two weeks to make up for this!" Mrs. Saffron told them.
Still coughing Katie walked out of the room, not before giving Trina a quick smirk before she left. She got to put the blame on Trina and get out of class early, forget the nurse, she was going to reward herself.
