As his latest class was coming to an end, Professor Jacobson leaned back in his chair, surveying the room of students preparing to bolt from the classroom. He reached down with his right hand to open his top desk drawer, revealing what looked like a normal computer tablet. In fact, it was a special piece of technology that a friend of Brian's had sent him in the mail from the top secret lab where he worked. Along with the tablet was a note, explaining that his friend, Tom, was disappearing after stealing the 'tablet' and a few other things that were being researched or had already been constructed by brilliant scientists, some of it using alien tech.
I wonder if all that was true what he said about this thing. Brian thought, picking up the tablet and switching it on. His friend had said in the note only that it was a reality altering device, but hadn't elaborated much. A horizontal, bright blue light came on at the top of the device and flashed a couple of times before staying on. So far it behaved like a normal electrical item. A white screen then appeared with a single button in the middle. Since it was touch screen, Brian hit the button - which said 'Scan'. Immediately, some sort of red energy pulse, apparently only visible to him, shot out in all directions, encompassing the classroom.
Then, to his astonishment a list of names appeared on the device's screen, his own name at the top in bold letters with 'User' in brackets at the side, followed by the names of all 25 students who were in the large classroom with him. "Wow!" Brian muttered quietly, finding out he could scroll down the names and highlight them.
He selected two at random, a nerdy girl named Beatrice Shaw, and one of the more popular guys in class, Scott Rawlson. Astonished when 3D images of both students appeared side by side on the screen, rotating as they did so, Brian saw another list pop up at the side of both images. It was a list of traits, both physical and mental, even their clothing was mentioned. Brian frowned when he also saw the drop down menus were under a header that read 'Swap List'.
Shrugging, he clicked on 'Chest' next to Beatrice's image and her chest began glowing as her image stopped rotating. He then did the same to Scott's image, and in between both images a new button popped up, flashing in red text - 'Initiate Swap'. "What in the world?" Brian mumbled under his breath, as he pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose. Out of curiosity he hit the button, and his eyes widened in surprise when he saw the images change. Beatrice's chest seemed to flatten out, while Scott's chest seemed to inflate. Not sure what this meant, Brian casually looked up and over to Beatrice sat in her chair still reading from a text book. She was a geeky girl, plain brown hair worn down, wearing glasses, she was a skinny thing, and then... Brian noticed her chest... it appeared to be flat "Woah!" he said, quickly locating Scott in the classroom, and sure enough, his tight black t-shirt was distended with a pair of small breasts, about a B-cup, but he wore no bra and his feminine nipples were evident through the fabric. And what was more astonishing, was that neither student, or any of the others in the class, seemed to notice anything wrong.
"A trait swapper?" Brian whispered to himself, scratching his head as he glanced at the screen again. 'Swap Complete' was flashing in blue letters where the red text had been moments before. Brian realized just how revolutionary... and no doubt top secret the technology he now had in his possession was. And the lab probably wanted it back, along with the other things Tom had stolen.
Further playing with the device revealed further features, including a 'Reset' button, which he tapped, and sure enough his two swapped students returned to normal. A mischievous smirk appeared on the usually strict, 40-year old professor's face as he realized the entertainment he could have with this technology. And after working at the college for so long, working so hard, he thought he was due some fun.
He certainly wasn't going to hand in the tech to any authorities. It was his now.
