Ruff jogged across the pebbles to catch the glowing orb. Only belatedly worrying about the heat, as she caught it. The stone glowed fiercely in her hand a piercing white light at its core was almost hypnotic. She didn't look away, as she heard the crunching cracking of stones, as Hookfang landed. The lighter crunch as Snotlout dismounted, or his hurried shush... shush... shush... as he raced over the loose stony beach.
"That look valuable." Snotlout said a beefy hand reaching out to snatch it from Ruff's grasp. Her reactions were quicker than expected as her grip tightened around the stone. Her finger looking pink and translucent, as Snotlout tried again. It was still cold to the touch.
"Give it!" he demanded. His upper arms flexing in preparation. Ruff's eyes narrowed, as she sized him up. Whacking him in the face with her fist and the stone, she felt his nose smash with a satisfying squelch.
"I'm more of a warrior than you!" She crowed, withdrawing her bloody fist.
"You belong in the kitchen." Snotlout fired back, "You don't deserve a dragon, you only share that... that thing with Tuff!" Blowing snot and blood from his nostrils he continued.
"You'll only find a man, and marry. You'll leave Tuff unable to fly without finding his own... a new dragon."
"Yeah... You wish." Ruff fired back. She didn't think of herself in those terms. Sure.... She was a young woman. But had no more desire for a family than Snotlout, Hiccup or Astrid.
Brilliant white light flared. The stone turning briefly icy in her hand burning with it's coldness. The whiteness was blinding, as both Ruff and Snotlout shuffled backwards, one arm shielding their eyes from the light to collapse ass first onto the beach. A second pulse of brilliance sending them both to sleep.
