Chapter #4

Cover It Up

James’s smirk lingers, his eyes scanning your shirt as he waits for a response. Your mind races. Play it cool. Deflect.

You grab the office jacket draped over your chair and casually slip it on, making sure to button it up enough to conceal most of the pink fabric beneath. “It’s just a shirt, man,” you say with a shrug, acting as if nothing is out of the ordinary.

James raises an eyebrow, his smirk widening slightly. “Huh. Looks a little... different.”

“Laundry day,” you reply quickly. “Had to grab whatever was clean.” You force a chuckle, hoping to steer the conversation elsewhere. James stares at you for another moment before finally leaning back in his chair, seemingly satisfied—for now.

You turn back to your computer, pretending to be engrossed in work, but your heart pounds in your chest. One wrong move and the whole office might start asking questions. The snug fit of Sarah’s pants reminds you of your predicament with every shift in your seat.

A few minutes later, Lisa from HR walks by, clutching a clipboard. She stops near your desk, her gaze flicking toward you. “Steve, aren’t you hot in that jacket? The AC is barely on.”

Crap.

You freeze for a second before forcing a sheepish grin. “Yeah, well… I spilled coffee on my shirt earlier. Didn’t want to walk around looking like a mess,” you say, feigning a careless tone. You pat the front of your jacket as if emphasizing a stain that isn’t actually there.

Lisa nods, accepting the excuse without question. “Ah, makes sense. Just don’t overheat yourself.” She walks away, and you exhale a breath you hadn’t realized you were holding.

Crisis averted—for now.

You glance at the clock. Just a few more hours until lunch, and then maybe you can sneak home and change. The thought alone fills you with relief. But just as you start to relax, you hear James whisper to a coworker behind you.

“I swear, that’s a blouse.”

You gulp.

Time for Plan B.

You have the following choices:

*Pen*
1. Double Down on the Lie

2. Create a Distraction

*Pen*
3. Make a Quick Exit

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
