"What the--" you freeze at the sound coming out of your mouth. Your voice is really high, like a little kid's. You look down at yourself and gasp. Your skin is all soft and smooth, and you're much skinnier, just like you were when you were much, much younger.
Your shirt is like a dress hanging off of you.
"What happened to... woah." Kyle's voice is much deeper, and he looks down at you, giggling. He looks totally different now. You'd guess he's 17, just like you are.
Or were, before the ray hit you.
"Wow!" Kyle shouts, holding up his hands. "My voice is so cool!" His clothes are so tight that they're ripping in places. Kyle winces and starts clawing at his shirt.
"That... isn't what was supposed to happen," you say, wincing at your childish voice.
"I know! You're so little!" Kyle ruffles your hair, making you squirm. Then he looks over at your mirror and freezes. "Hey! I'm big too! Look, I have a beard!"
Kyle jumps up and down. "I'm a teenager! Look at me! Wow, I look so old!" Kyle struggles with his shirt again, and he finally just ends up ripping the thing, then he starts straining at his pants. You imagine they must be really undomfortable.
"Wait," you say, grabbing his arm. Your fingers don't even wrap all the way around his wrist. "I need to fix this. I don't know why the machine messed up so badly, but--"
"Uhm... I think it's my fault," Kyle said. "I kind of played with some knobs. And buttons."
"You did this?!"
"I didn't mean to! I just wanted to see what would happen! You were so mean before..." Kyle pouts, the expression looking really weird on his seventeen-year-old face.
You sigh, realizing you were pretty harsh with him before. He shouldn't have tampered with your machine, but he probably would've left it alone if you'd been nicer.
"I'm sorry," you say. "I shouldn't have been so mean. It's just... something really, really bad could've happened. It could've killed us. Please, don't mess with it again, okay?"
"I'm sorry too," he says. He picks you up by the armpits, making your pants and underwear fall to the ground, and squeezes you in a hug.
"Ouch!" you shout as he starts crushing your ribs.
"Sorry!" he says, putting you down. A little smile creeps over his face. "I'm really strong now, huh?" He moves over to your weights in the corner and starts lifting them. "Woah! These are so light!"
While he's distracted, you work on inspecting the machine. As you look over the settings, you see it's on a pretty simple age swap. Hitting you with the same ray should bring things back to normal.
"What are you doing?" Kyle asks.
"I'm going to fix us," you say.
"Aww, no fair! I've never been a teenager before! Come on, can't we stay this way for just a little bit?"
You hesitate. You really, really don't like being so small, and having him be so big is also worrying. But after you were so mean to him, you feel like maybe you should try and make it up to him.
