The answer was obvious to the Nobody. If he accepted the offer of rebirth, he could become someone else and walk away from the life that could have been if the original hadn’t returned. It also meant that he would no longer need to see Bruce’s face in every reflection.
The relevant agencies were more than willing to provide him with the information requested. It meant that the Union didn’t have to deal with the risk of the Nobody trying to interfere or take the place of the original. It also meant that the species chosen would receive a new willing member for their purposes.
Now the only thing left for the Nobody was to decide which species to become. It turned that there was a surprising number of possibilities scattered throughout the known galaxy.
With a sigh, the Nobody started flipping through the files. It wouldn’t do to put it off any longer than he needed.
The first possibility was the Aurnae, a female-only species that somewhat resembles humanoid cattle from Earth. That received no end of questions and investigation from human scientists when the two species were brought together. They lack the udders found on their earthling counterparts, and most have only two breasts instead. Some do posses four and a very rare number have six though. They also have two pairs of eyes, with one set adjusted for better vision in the dark. Their recent colonization efforts as well as their very very slow gestation places them towards the top of the list for accepting people willing to be reborn into the species.
A second possibility was the Orrix, a tri-gendered species of gelatinous insectoid-like creatures. Each of the genders is needed for reproduction, though one of the genders is much rarer than the other two. The worlds they inhabit are outright inhospitable to most other species, but often possess a beauty unlike any other planets. Despite lacking any visible eyes, the Orrix can see, and see in a much wider spectrum than humans. They can also see in almost three hundred and sixty degrees around them. A recent infection passed among the species has reduced their numbers somewhat before being cured. This has caused the species to have a higher than usual priority on requesting new individuals.
The Nobody considered the two options for a time. But he also knew that plenty of other options were waiting if he decided against them.
