"It's so cool!" you cooed, "I want to learn it too. Can't you teach me?"
James shook his head, "No, Jess. This cannot be learnt if one does not have 'the gift'. Also, girls don't have 'the gift'".
You feel very disappointed. Mad science seemed such an intriguing prospect.
"Don't feel sad, Jess," said James, "I can show you whatever I've learnt."
He took a glass of water and jerked it up, so that the water flew out. Then before the water drops fell to the ground, he blew lightly on it. You find that the water droplets had turned into little ice drops. He caught them and held it out to you.
You feel mixed emotions. You are fascinated by mad science but you start feeling somewhat left out. You remembered James saying that your brothers too would become mad scientists in the future, while you would the plain Jane of the lot. James had not said that, but that is what you feel. Tears sprang out of your eyes and ignoring James' outstretched hand, you rushed outside the house. You have to sort this out.
But unfortunately, you ran into Tonya, your best friend. Looking at your stricken face, she asked you what the matter was.
