You were swinging across the New York skyline after a day of fighting bad guys and their henchmen. You had actually been able to take out Sandman and trap him in a vial. Your last stop before going back home would be the lab in which Sandman would be kept (outside the vial of course), and the scientists there would try to figure out how to get rid of his powers. The lab was only a couple blocks away when a shockwave hit you and sent you flying towards a nearby building.
You brace for impact as you get catapulted through a window. You lay there for a few seconds before slowly getting back up.
That took you by surprise! I mean your spidey-sense had sensed it sure but you had so little time to react that it definitely did surprise you, something which does not happen often. You get back up and look around, your in an office building, pretty normal. Luckily you landed in the break room and nobody was hurt, except the coffee machine maybe. You let out a quick ''Sorry!'' and jump out the window to check out the disturbance.
Finding out where it came from wasn't difficult in the slightest. There was a massive pillar of smoke in the sky, meaning all you had to do was trace the building it came from and voila!
You realise the explosion and resulting shockwave came from the lab you were gonna give Sandman to! You land on the roof which now housed a massive crater in the middle of it, seemingly going down quite a few floors. You jump down and land on some rubble, beside which was a Scientist you knew. He was unconscious but thankfully still breathing. You would have to save him later if somebody else hadn't already by that point. You make your way towards where the smoke is coming from and see what can only be described as a massive portal that looked like a whirlwind. An apt description considering the considerable amount of wind in the room! You struggle to keep your balance as the wind tugs at you towards the portal. Eventually even for Spider-Man the wind that the portal is generating is too strong! You lose balance and shoot a web towards one of the tiles on the wall hoping you could hang on. You start pulling yourself towards the wall but the wind is too strong and it gives way. You narrowly manage to hold onto a pipe as you see parts of the wall falling into the vortex of the portal.
But it is too much, you can't hold on any longer or you'll tear a muscle. You let go and fall into the whirlwind and once you do you simply float around, seeing different events that you remember but slightly different. Your mind immediately starts thinking of what this could be but it can only come to one conclusion: these are other universes!
You start floating towards one of the events and as you get closer you are being pulled in harder and harder until...
