You wake up very early that morning, which was the day after your eighth birthday. Your name is Jaxxon DeJaeger and you are eight years old. You are about four-foot-eight inches tall, you have short black hair and brown eyes, and you're about average-looking. Your friends call you Jax for short. So far, your life has been very "normal" up till now. You always get up early, go to school, come home and you do your homework. You play soccer and tennis after school.
This morning, things are different. You walk into the classroom where Ms. Vanderveld teaches third grade class. You sit all the way in the back of the room, next to your best friend, who is the same age as you, a short, blond boy who goes by the name of Zander Kane. You've known Zander since Kindergarten which is easy to explain since he lives right next door to you as well. Not only that, but Zander has been training karate since age six and he's gotten very good at it. He's your video game partner and protector in school, who always bails you out if you get in trouble. Nobody picks on you when Zander's around!
You like to sit in the back of the classroom because that lets you look out the windows now and then. The classroom was facing the street and the playground, so it gives you a great view of what’s going on outside. You just need to look outside when Mrs. Vanderveld isn’t paying attention to you.
As you glance outside, you spot two men walking on the playground outside. They are quite far way, but for some odd reason; you can hear their voices clearly. You hear their entire conversation. It seems like they are talking about the weather and the traffic being so heavy this morning. It just seemed odd to you that you can hear them so well.
Another man in a nice suit approaches them. The man is carrying a black suitcase. As you stare at the suitcase, for a brief moment, the suitcase becomes transparent and you see papers and pens neatly stored inside of the suitcase, which the man is holding by its handle.
“Huh? What the heck? I’m seeing and hearing things?” you whisper.
“Hey, Jax!” Zander says to you. “What’s going on?”
“Dude… Can you hear what those guys are saying?”
“No… They’re too far away!”
You look over and then you look back at your friend.
“That’s weird…” you whisper.
“What?” Zander asks.
“I can hear every word they’re saying!” you whisper back to him.
“No way!”
He stares at you in amazement.
“Zander! Jaxxon! Please pay attention to class!” Mrs. Vanderveld says to both you and Zander.
You quickly turn around and listen to the teacher, knowing that you’ll have something to discuss with your friend during recess…
