This choice: Read the note from Angela before going anywhere • Go Back...Chapter #5Read the note from Angela before going anywhere by: CassieG A note from the person renting her life felt a little strange. No one had mentioned doing so, and she assumed that the packet she got from Angela would include much the same information she had left in the packet that was to be given to Angela. What was odd, more than just the presence of the note, was that it was addressed to her as 'Lisa'. Figuring that anything important enough to leave her a personal note should be read sooner than later, Lisa unfolded it and began to read.
Lisa,
By the time you read this, you will be closer to me than any member of my own family. I realize that this is a business transaction, but I want you to know why I chose your life. I feel that of everyone available, you will be the best choice to live my life while I enjoy yours. You seem like a responsible young woman, and I feel that I will be able to trust you with my job and home while I live your life.
More than that though, I want you to know how precious of a gift I'm receiving. I've been the 'sensible one' for a long time, and by becoming you, I feel I'll have an opportunity to cut loose a bit and have a glimpse of what could have been. For me to have that, you have to give up that priceless opportunity. I think the money that I've paid for the opportunity is hardly enough, after all, the time that we have and the memories that we build are worth more than mere dollars and cents.
So, I have two things I want to give you while you're living my life. The first is very simple: I want you to know that I have budgeted an extra $10,000 in 'fun' that is reserved for your use. I would have used the money to rent more time in your life, but I feel like you should be able to enjoy some of the finer things in life while I rob you of your summer vacation. Visit a spa, go shopping, take a weekend trip, or do something that just interests you. I understand that with my job to work around, it's not a full time vacation, but I hope you make good use of the money and the time left to yourself.
The second thing I want to give you is a request, but one I hope you will enjoy. I'm not very outgoing... and as you can see from the file, I have few friends. I haven't had a boyfriend since my sophomore year in college. I'd like to ask you to date while you're living my life. You don't have to, I understand if you don't. And you don't have to worry about 'finding me a man,' that I can continue to date once things are done, but if you do, I would count it a huge blessing.
Per the terms of the rental agreement, we won't be allowed to communicate during the rental, but I do have the wild fantasy that we may see each other again after the month is up, and I hope that we can be friends then.
Angela
Folding up the letter, Lisa spent a few minutes lost in thought before she was able to get herself moving. She'd tried to think of this as just a different way of having a summer job, but hadn't given much thought to how it would impact her own life.... or how much impact she could have on Amanda's. The letter; however, made her feel very much like she had made the right decision. Perhaps the summer could give them both something they needed. And pleasant surprises to come home to for both of them! indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
