Hot Water

It isn't long before you're called into Lexi's office and she is pissed. "You imbecile!" yells your employer. "You had one job! One &#$@ing job and you blew it. Do you have any idea how much time and money it's going to take to repair the lunchroom?" "In all fairness," you say. "That wasn't my fault, Lexi. Konia startled everyone. I mean, there aren't a lot of monsters in Fearfield with more than one head."
Lexi just growls at you and step back. "If you hadn't answered my riddle correctly," says your sphinx boss. "I'm have you for lunch." Lexi even snaps her jaws to emphasize her point as you're shaking. She even shakes her tail. "You really outdid yourself this time, Tim," says Lexi. "I don't know whether or not to fire you or to shoot you." You actually sweat at that. You definitely didn't want to be fired by Lexi but she's just so mad right now.
However, then Lexi moves her eyes as if she's deep in thought and pins you to the ground with one of her claws. She has it dangerously close to her neck, like a cat playing with a mouse it intends to kill. "But then again," says Lexi. "Everyone deserves a second chance. It recently occurred to me that having only two guards, neither of which have the same shift, is inefficient. So I recently hired two more security guards. One for the day shift and one for the night shift. They coincidentally start work today at the same time."
Lexi then picks you up and holds you in front of her face as you grunt. "And it's just as well. Fate can't work the night shift tonight because she's helping her mother with some pest control and Beth can't work the day shift. Poor dear caught a nasty flu and couldn't come in today. Of course, the new guards will need some guidance. Your choice. Day shift or night shift."
You didn't even know what the new guards looked like or what species they were, but this was your only chance to save your job. Which shift should you cover?
