A Working Vacation

    by: TheCrimsonFreak Author IconMail Icon
"Are you sure we've packed everything, 'Tia?" Luna asked for the umpteenth time that morning. "We do not want to forget our swimwear at the castle yet again...or yours, for that matter!"

Celestia was busy stuffing a suitcase with all manner of trinkets--spare crowns, sunscreen, sunglasses, several bagged lunches, a saxophone, and a paperback copy of a select trashy romance novel (that was secretly written by Cadence, unknown to Celestia); to name just a few. Just like all the other times, the Solar Alicorn rolled her eyes and giggled. "Don't worry Luna, I've checked and double-checked our bags many times over--I didn't forget a thing," she soothed. "I certainly wouldn't leave either of our swimwear behind, especially after what happened on our last jaunt to our favorite vacation spot," she added with a wink.

Luna blushed, her midnight-blue coat stained purple around her face. "Er, very well Sister. We shall...leave this matter to you, then."

Celestia smiled, and ceased her packing. She trotted over to Luna and laid a wing over her. "Don't look so embarrassed, Luna. It's not like it ruined our visit last time, correct?"

Luna's blush receded as she grinned. "No, 'Tia..."

Celestia's warm smile grew wicked. "And besides, you only noticed when I pointed it out! We were both having too much fun to notice, after all."

Luna mirrored her sister's smirk. "Of course, Sister."

They finished packing in record time--literally, they set a new world standard for quick packing--and set off down a corridor in their palace.
"Have young Twilight and Cadence gotten settled in?" Luna asked, fitting on a pair of sunglasses.

Celestia put on a wide-brimmed hat, tilting it so the brim shaded the back of her neck. "They're already holding Day Court, quite happily in fact. They'll be more than able to hold things down for a few days. Twilight's a Princess now too, after all; she needs some experience as a leader."

The pair turned down a side hall, coming to a very ordinary-looking door.
TOO ordinary-looking, in fact.

Sharing a grin, the two Royal Sisters opened the too-ordinary-looking door, revealing a not-at-all-ordinary magic portal. It appeared as a floating disc of a mercury-like liquid, rippling all over and glowing silver from within. Luna's smile went from one ear to the other as she cast a quick spell on the portal, making it glow even brighter. It soon held an image of their chosen vacation spot, a place that had become a favored stomping ground for the two Alicorns in recent years.

A world called Earth.

"Let us take our leave, then!" Luna announced, looking giddy.

Celestia was smirking devilishly, giggling like a little filly. "So, Luna," she announced, flicking up her sunhat. "What shall it be this time: just relaxing, or shall we have a more...active vacation?"

Luna lifted her sunglasses with a hoof, cocking an eyebrow at her sister. "Such a conundrum, 'Tia. We have been overdue for some rest, but the little natives of that place are such fun when they try to stop us..."
