Jake’s jaw practically dropped as he took in the strange device Danny held up. The sleek, silver surface glimmered faintly under the bedroom light, and glowing green lines pulsed along its length as if it were alive. It was straight out of a sci-fi dream.
“No way,” Jake said, his voice filled with awe. “Is that real?”
Danny smirked and handed the gun to Jake. “You tell me. Found it in my uncle’s attic last week. He said it was just an old prop, but I think there’s more to it. Feel how heavy it is!”
Jake took the ray gun and marveled at its weight. It wasn’t a cheap toy, that was for sure. “What do you think it does?” he asked, turning it over to examine the engravings and the strange button near the handle.
“No clue,” Danny admitted, plopping down on the bed with a grin. “I haven’t tried it yet. Thought it’d be more fun to figure it out with you.”
Jake raised an eyebrow. “Wait—you haven’t tested it at all? What if it actually works and, like… zaps us or something?”
“Then we’ll have the coolest sleepover story ever,” Danny said with a laugh. “Come on, just try pressing the button. What’s the worst that could happen?”
Jake hesitated but couldn’t deny his curiosity. He aimed the ray gun at the far wall and carefully placed his finger over the glowing green button. “Okay… here goes nothing.”
