Chapter #4

An emerging leviathan

The closer it got, the wider your eyes became. There was no doubt - that gigantic object swimming towards you was definitly a fin, though you couldn't even imagine the fish it could possibly belong to. It looked like a shark fin, though the colour was a lot darker than usual - a very dark grey, almost black. Droplets of water made the skin shimmer in the warm sun.

You definitely didn't want to be anywhere near this thing when it reached the shore. You spun around, wading out of the water, and ran as fast as you could away from the sea and towards the towering trees of the jungle. When you finally reached the edge, you collapsed next to one of the gigantic trunks, gasping for air. Running on sand was definitely not your forte.

Suddenly, a greath thump shook the earth, the trees beside you trembling from the force. Leaves fell onto your head. Dread filled your stomach. An impact like that could only be caused by something large... and you were awfully sure, what it was. Slowly, you turned, careful to stay out of sight... and your jaw fell open.

A massive hand emerged from the sea, the grey fingers digging into the sand. With a massive crash, another arm flew out of the water, shaking the earth again. You were filled with awe and terror, as the gargantuan muscles flexed and the creature stemmed itself upwards. A dome of water rose into the air, as the giant emerged to the surface. For a second, a solid wall of water overshadowed the beach. Then, gravity took hold, pulling the water down, flooding the beach and revealing the monster underneath.

A massive shark was towering over the island. At least, that's what you thought. The creature didn't really look like a fish... rather, it looked almost human!
The arms it was leaning on were thick and muscular, ending in almost clawlike fingers. Behind the massive torso, you could see enormous legs vanishing beneath the surface. But the most startling feature was it's face! A short, messy shock of dirty, blonde hair covered it's head - as well as two eyes and shockingly large mouth. It was twisted into a grin, revealing rows and rows of razor-sharp, white teeth. Finally, your eyes wander lower - and you realize, that what you called an 'it' was decidedly more female as you noticed her chest.

The gigantic shark woman let out a sigh, closed her eyes... and simply flopped down onto the beach. Her legs still below the surface, she lied down on her belly, resting her head onto her crossed arms. Was she... sunning herself? It seemed like it to you.

You couldn't believe your eyes! A creature like this couldn't exist! Wouldn't you have heard about it, if it did? This had to be a dream! But several pinches of your arm later, you had to realize that it was all to real. You were stranded on a strange island with an impossible creature before you.
There was a silver lining, though. The massive shark hadn't noticed you yet, content with lying in the sun. Which meant, that you could take your time gathering your thoughts and crafting a plan.
Your first instinct was to run away as far as you could. The shark was dangerous, if only through her sheer size. Hell, you should have been sprinting away, even if she had been just an ordinary shark. But on the other hand, you didn't know what to expect from the island behind you. If there was one giant, maybe there were more? You hoped not, but how should you know?

Maybe it would be best to just try to get away from this strange place. With time, maybe you could built yourself a raft. You couldn't have drifted of that far, could you? And the faster you got away from the giant, the better.

But also, you were packed by curiosity. The eyes of the shark were different than from any other animal you had ever seen. They glimmered with intelligence. It slowly dawned on you, that you had discovered a new species, something that would completely revolutionize scientific perception. And hell, maybe she could even talk! She certainly looked human enough...
