Your mother's body, she's swapped with ...

"... Your mother's body, and she's in yours."

Holy shit! You couldn't quite believe what you were hearing. It surely being some kind of joke.

It wasn't though. Dr. Kerry assuring you of that. Hitting you then with yet another bombshell, that not only had you and your mother's brains been swapped out, but your father's and your little sister's had now too. Tabitha being in his body and him in hers. Your little brother, David having been the only one in the family to escape unscathed. This however, not making it appear like any less of a nightmare. How the hell were you going to live like this?

The two doctors had very little in the way of answers. Appearing rather unsure themselves as they profusely apologized. Reiterating again that it really had been the only way to save your lives.

"Oh God... I think... I think I'm gonna be sick," you groaned, feeling incredibly queasy. This news being way too much for your brain to process.

"Obviously it will take a while for the four of you to acclimatize to this new situation, but I have great faith that you will," Kerry then told you, looking incredibly awkward again, "Because, well... There eh, there's something else that you need to be aware of."

There was more? Oh God, what now?

"You see, the procedure wasn't entirely legal, or in anyway sanctioned by the hospital," he said, looking towards Dr. Saunders. "We..." Receiving a disapproving scowl in return and quickly changing his tune. "...I, did it entirely off my own back to save your lives. Which means, that nobody else can know about what happened here. You have to keep the entire procedure a secret, otherwise the media attention will be just too much to cope with. Never mind the legal minefield of actually being in someone elses body."

"So what are you saying? That we have to pretend to be each other now?" Getting the feeling that this was exactly what they were saying. As crazy as it sounded.

"Yes," Kerry nodded. "At least in public. In private you can still be yourselves."

This was of little consolation to you however. Shaking your head as you spoke. "No way. This... This has got to be some kind of joke!" It being bad enough you'd just been told your brain was now inside your mother's body and vice versa without adding this on top. There being absolutely no way you could actually live like this.

Stepping in again, Saunders assured you that it most definitely wasn't a joke, and that apparently your parents had both agreed to this already. Your sister also. This news very much getting your attention.

"You mean they're awake?"

"Yes. They have been for a few hours now," he said. "And although they were obviously extremely shocked when they first woke up, just as you are, they realize that in the long run, this really is the best course of action."

"Jesus..." It blowing your mind even further that they had just agreed to this. To basically signing your lives away, without even properly talking it over. This surely being, if not THE, at least one of the most important family decisions you'd ever make. Not like picking a new car, or where you'd go on your next vacation. This being the rest of your life that was being affected her. Which had apparently just gotten a lot shorter, by 26 years...

"It's a lot to take in I know, and we do wish it could have been some other way," Saunders continued, trying his best to comfort you. "Unfortunately, this is how things have worked out. So all you can do is try and make the best of it."

You didn't really have any choice it seemed. If what they said was true and you were now stuck like this, what else were you going to do? Nothing, that's what.

You did however, still want to see some actual proof. Your current numbness from the drugs, added to your position on the bed making it impossible to know what kind of state you were really in. Thinking that there might still be a chance, however slim, that this was all just some big prank and you weren't really inside your mother's body. Needing very much now to see for yourself. Asking then, as you spotted a small mirror on a side table, "Can I see? I wanna see?"

The older doctor thought this over for a moment, having a quiet word with his colleague that you couldn't quite make out. Before turning back to you then and replying, "Alright. But please, Tim, try not to get too worked up. Your body is still recovering."

Even though you couldn't really keep this promise, having no idea how you were going to react, you nodded your head anyway, figuring this would do. Watching then as Saunders reached over to the table and picked up the mirror. Feeling a growing sense of dread starting to build in your stomach as he did. The mirror slowly making its way towards you, arriving moments later in front of your face.

Oh God. It's real! you gasped, catching sight of your reflection. Finding there, staring back at you, was the face of your very own mother, Jennifer Connors. Looking incredibly shocked at what she say. Her eyes wide and her mouth hanging open, mirroring your own expression. The sight leaving you utterly speechless, as well as completely blown away. I'm really her. I'm really Mom! Her longish blonde hair looking all matted and disheveled. Her soft green eyes red and puffy, while a series of small stitches decorated the top of one eye. There being no doubt in your mind anymore that this really was her... Or more importantly, this really was you.

"As you can see, there really is very little sign of any external damage visible to the cranium," Dr. Kerry explained, being unable to help himself. "We even managed even preserve your mother's hairline using a rather new and highly advanced, non-evasive surgery technique that I patented myself. To the outside observer, they wouldn't even know anything was amiss."

"Kerry!" Saunders barked, shushing his colleague. There being a time and a place for boasting and this clearly not being it.

Not that you had really been listening anyway. Instead being far too focused on the eerie sight your mother's face moving as you moved. Really hearing for the first time the sound of her own croaky voice coming from your mouth. "This is... This is just too weird!"

Moving the mirror away again, Dr. Saunders place a hand on your shoulder. Assuring you as he did, that as strange as all this was, eventually you would get used to it. You and the rest of your family both. Before then reaching for your IV drip and fiddling with it for a moment.

"We'll talk more soon, when you're more rested," he said. "But for now, it's best you get some sleep. The others will be waiting for you when you wake up."

You tried to protest. Not wanting to talk later or sleep for any longer, but it was too late. Whatever drugs they were pumping you with had quickly started to take effect and you felt yourself suddenly starting to drift. Why me? ...Why us? was the last thought on your mind as you felt unconsciousness slowly began to creep in. It's just not fair...

You have the following choices:

1. You awake to find your parents at your bedside.

2. Sometime later.
