This choice: You come to sometime later and your parents are both there. • Go Back...Chapter #4You come to sometime later and your parents are... by: Wassel You awoke some time later, not entirely sure when or even where - your previous awakening seeming more like an incredibly vivid dream than anything that could have possibly been real. Opening your eyes slowly, you were confronted by the very welcoming sight of your mother and your father standing over you. Their voices quietly echoing in your ears.
"Hey there, buddy," your father said as you began to stir, "Welcome back to the land of the living." An incredibly relieved looking smile appearing on both his and your mother's faces.
"Unn... What... What's going on?" you groaned, feeling incredibly sluggish. As if not every part of your body had woken up just yet.
"You're in the hospital, sweetheart," your mother replied. Brushing a hand gently against your cheek. "There were a few complications from the accident, but the doctors assured us that you're fine now."
This mention of an accident immediately putting to mind what the two of them had told you before, about Allison. Letting out a concerned yelp as you struggled to sit up.
"Oh God... ALLISON! Allison... Is she...?"
"She's fine. She's resting."
"But its true, isn't it?" you asked. "It's all true? She's... She's in someone else's body now."
Your mother nodded, indicating that she was. This leading you to ask them then if they'd actually seen her. If they'd seen what your girlfriend had now become.
"Yes. The doctors took us a couple of hours ago, while she was still sleeping," your father said, his voice quickly trailing off. As if unsure of what else to say. It obviously seeming just as weird to him as it was to you. The idea of Allison being someone else now. A twenty-seven year old, French Canadian bodybuilder at that.
Thankfully your mom quickly stepped in again (having always been better with words). Grasping your hand and telling you that, "What happened to Allison is just awful, Tim. I can't imagine how she's going to feel when she wakes up. But at least she's alive, and we'll all do our best to help her get through this in any way we can. She won't be alone." Being glad in a way that your family had taken to your girlfriend so well. Your mother at times treating her more like a daughter then your girlfriend.
This didn't negate the fact however that the two doctors expected her to actually live Cassie's life as if it were her own. As if Allison Lowry was dead. Putting this to your parents, as well as the fact that they'd actually agreed to this arrangement. Still not believing that they could.
Your parents were quick to explain though. Reiterating what the doctors had said about how it was "for the best" and that there really was "no other way". Knowing how upsetting it must be for you and wishing that there was some other option, but making it abundantly clear that there was not. Allison had to be Cassie Rousseau now. She had to.
Although you still didn't like it one bit, listening to them explain their side of the story, you couldn't really blame them any longer. After all, What other choice did they have? They were only doing what they thought was right, as were the doctors. Groaning however that, "It just sucks is all. Why did this have to happen?"
"I know. I wish it hadn't either," your mother softly spoke, brushing a hand through your hair, "But it has, and we've got to do everything we can now to make Allison's transition as easy as possible."
"Her transition?... Living as some musclebound freak you mean?"
"Tim, please. Don't say it like that. It's not Allison's fault or even the doctors that Cassie was the only donor body available. Besides, despite her.... rather extreme physique, I'm sure she'll be able to live as normal a life as anyone else. It's not whats on the outside that matters, its whats on the inside. And you'll never find as sweet or as lovely a girl as Allison. Even if... If things can no longer be quite the same between you two. What with Allison being a grown woman now. That... That just wouldn't be right."
No, you didn't think it would. Nor did you even know how you were going to react when you saw her. Picturing a dude in a wig whenever you thought about what she might look like. Female body builders all pretty much looking like that. Especially if she really was as jacked as both the doctors and your parents were making out. Seriously doubting you'd be physically attracted to her anymore anyway. Even if you could somehow get past the weirdness of it all. Very much dreading actually having to go to see her when she woke up.
Inevitably you had to go see her though, you knew that. And after talking with your parents for a little while longer, as well as getting a visit from David and Tabitha too, Dr. Saunders appeared again to inform you that she was now awake and was currently talking with her parents. Having apparently had the expected reaction when she'd woken up; being as incredibly freaked out as you might imagine. But, as with most things (and especially where your relationship was concerned), Allison had eventually managed to keep a level head. Being extremely grateful to be alive, no matter what she now looked like.
"...She was asking after you in fact, Tim," Saunders told you. "Wanted to see you when you were up and about. Which according to your latest test results, should be in a couple of hours. You seem to be on your way to a full recovery now."
While this really shouldn't have come as any kind of surprise (she was your girlfriend after all), you weren't entirely sure how to respond. Very much clamming up as soon as the doctor had said this.
"That is... If you want to of course."
"I... I... Yeah," you stuttered, "Of... Of course. Sorry. I guess I'm just a little nervous is all. You know, seeing her like... like that." Nervous being an understatement.
Thankfully the doctor appeared to emphasize with you plight. Assuring you that, it was completely understandable given the situation. "But believe you me, Tim, there really is nothing to worry about. Other than her outer appearance and most of her brain now being Cassie's, Allison is still just the same girl she's always been, and she's going to need your help more than anyone to get through this thing."
"I know," you nodded. There being nobody closer to her than you were. Not even her parents of her friends (the latter of which she'd no longer be able to talk to).
"So, what do you say? Shall I tell her you'll swing by?"
Your answer to this being...
