This choice: Your mother (Just the two of you alone). • Go Back...Chapter #4Your mother (Just the two of you alone). by: Wassel When you next awoke from your drug fueled slumber, it felt like you were in some kind of nightmare. Learning from the doctors that not only had your little brother been seriously injured but your mother too. Who, ever since your deadbeat Dad had left her back when you were 5 and David was 3, had been left alone to take care of you. Surviving mainly on the settlement money that she'd gotten from the divorce, as well as a few odd jobs here and there. But even still she'd been a bomb ass Mom. Hence why, when you were told that she hadn't made it and that her body had been used as part of an experimental brain transplant procedure, you didn't know whether to laugh or cry. This news hitting you like a ton of bricks. Barely being able to concentrate in fact as Dr. Kerry explained how it had been the only way to keep your little brother's brain alive. To transplant a small part of him into her. The part that made David David. Essentially making your brother now your mom. Which was just about the most fucked up thing you'd ever heard. Not knowing what to do with information like that.
And not only this, but apparently, due to the untested nature of the procedure, they couldn't let anyone else know what had happen. Because of the legal implications for everyone involved. The two doctors having no idea what might happen if anyone else found out. Not to mention the media circus that would surround him. Essentially robbing him of the life that they'd used your mother's body to save.
This meaning then, that as far as anyone other than the four of you were concerned, he WAS Jennifer Connors. He was your 41 year old mom. Needing to keep up this pretense in front of everyone else. Which was a bitter pill to swallow, but one that you knew you had to. Not wanting what had happened to be for naught. Knowing full well that given the choice, she would happily give her life to save his.
And so, after giving you some time to let this all sink in and then letting you see your brother-now-mom, you both signed a non-disclosure agreement. Concentrating then on trying to help him cope with his new life and his new form. Even though looking at him now, in your mother's much shorter, curvy body, was without a doubt one of the strangest experiences you'd ever had. With her shoulder length blonde hair, green eyes and warm and friendly smile. It being so weird and creepy to think about the fact that he was actually in there. That he now had everything that she did. All the... parts. Which you could only imagine was like a hundred times worse for him.
You did your best though to stay strong. And despite these strange new circumstances, he was certainly happy to be alive. Not wanting to waste this second chance at life wallowing in sadness. Trying his best to, as your mom had always told you, "look on the bright side" and concentrate on this positive. It really being the only thing that you could do.
That being said, while David was getting used to be 27 years older, a woman, and his own mom, you also realized that this pretty much put him in charge. Of the house. The finances. The car. Everything! Having no idea how he was supposed to cope. How either of you were. Not knowing the first thing about any of that stuff. The two of you were just kids!
Fortunately, the doctors did give you something to help out a little. A large sum of money as compensation for the accident and the transplant and keeping it all under wraps. Which meant that he didn't have to go looking for a job any time soon. This definitely taking the pressure off in that respect (as well as a few others). Informing you also that, due to his brain being 98% your mother's and only 2% his, most of her knowledge would still be buried somewhere deep inside. Needing only to find a way to access this information and it would no doubt help David along. Which you of course, being big a fan of the movie, compared to downloading stuff in the Matrix and automatically knowing Kung Fu. Or in his case, how to put on make up and a bra. More practical stuff like that. Which would definitely come in handy.
After which they saw no more reason to keep you in the hospital any longer. Not wanting it to appear suspicious as to why you were here. And so, only two days after you'd first woken up and had all this info dumped on your lap, the two of you were promptly discharged. David looking especially awkward in your mother's clothing, and you feeling nervous about what very well lay ahead. Loving him to bits and all, but he was still the same 14 year old boy at heart. One who was obsessed with Anime and his messing around on his computer. And who's knowledge of women was even less extensive than yours. Very much taking the reigns as you got into a taxi and headed for home. Where a very different, very unpredictable life now awaited you both. One that you couldn't possibly predict. After all, who'd ever had a younger sibling for a mom? Nobody, that's who. Being in completely uncharted waters. Him way more than you.
